"Said I wouldn't call, but I lost all control, and I need you now. And I don't know how I can do without. I just need you now."

*Kai's POV*

My eyes are puffy and swollen when I try to open them. I didn't even realize I had fallen asleep until I notice the moon shining through my window. Xander's limbs are still tangled with mine since I was clinging to him before passing out.

Goddess, this room is hot.

Hot enough to make my skin feel warm and clammy. I groan in discomfort, pushing Xander away from me. His body heat is only making it worse.

It's really hot.

"Kai?" Xander says groggily, blinking his eyes open. I throw the blankets off and whimper at how feverish I still feel. Propping himself up on his elbows, Xander looks at me with confusion in his pale blue eyes. "Hey, what's going on? Are you okay?"

"Hot," I mumble, sitting up to pull my shirt over my head.

"K-Kai!" Xander stammers in protest. His cheeks turn pink and he quickly averts his gaze.

It's still too hot. Each breath I pull in feels like I'm swallowing down warm, humid air. There's a deep sense of longing in my chest, one that I can't place. The remaining clothing on my body is becoming more and more uncomfortable against my skin. Muttering unintelligibly, I hook my thumbs in the waist of my pants and prepare to strip.

"Woah, wait!" Xander yelps, grabbing onto my wrist.

The contact of his skin against mine makes my skin tingle unpleasantly. I snatch my arm away from him with a hiss.

Looking at his hand, Xander's expression changes from confusion to worry. "Goddess, Kai, your skin is really warm. Like, really, really, warm."

I nod my head languidly and push myself out of the bed. "Too hot, it's too fucking hot in here."

"Kai..." Xander says slowly, standing from my bed. His pale blonde is messy from sleep and his clothes are wrinkled. "It's not hot in here. Actually, I was kind of cold during the night."

I stare at him, incredulous. "What are you talking about? It's hot as hell in here."

"No..."

"You've got to be kidding me. You're seriously not hot? How are you not hot?"

"Kai, slow down for a second—"

"Goddess, I feel like I'm burning up," I breathe out. Kieran stirs within me, whimpering slightly.

"Maybe I should wake Ryland up," Xander suggests, motioning towards my door.

"No!" I blurt while throwing my hands up. "Don't get Ryland. He always makes a bigger deal than necessary out of everything."

"You might have a bad fever though," he points out. "Wolves can get sick, you know. Not as often as humans do, but we're not immune to serious illness. And if you spiked a fever that quickly then I'm worried you caught something bad."
