Next morning
Ella's POV
I woke up early this morning. I need to ask Jen before going to the stadium just to make sure it's still good. I waited until 11:30 so like this I won't wake her up even if I don't really think she had some sleep.
I knock on her bedroom door and she says I can get in. She's still laying in bed with her eyes open. I get closer to her and she sits up.
"Jen can I go the the stadium now?" I ask "What time is it?" "11:30" I answer "Yeah okay. Do you want a lift?" "No I'm good. I'll take the bus and it's better for you if you just stay here and rest" I say and she smiles a little.
"Sure?" She asks "Yes" "Call me if there's anything wrong" "Okay love you, bye" I say while getting out of her room.
I really don't want to bother her with everything she learned yesterday. I meant it when I said she needs some rest. I pick up my phone and lace my shoes so I can go.
"Where are you going?" Tashi asks me "Walking I need to change my mind" I lie "Can I come with you?" "I don't want to be mean but I would prefer to go alone I think" I tell her so she won't come with me.
"It's fine I'm not even dressed to go outside anyway" she says and we laugh a little.
"Bye Tashi" "Bye"
I get out of the house, walk to the bus stop, wait and get inside when the arrives. I'm a little nervous. What if James doesn't want to talk to me again? I think I got on his nerves last time. I have to try anyway.
I walk out when the bus gets at the stadium. When I get inside, I search for the boy's locker room while looking around for a face I know. Then I see James turn the corner so I run to catch him.
"James wait!" I say and he turns around.
"Hey Ella. What are you doing here?" He asks "Can I talk to you?" I ask hesitantly "About Alex again?" "Maybe...I know you don't want to but please"
I see in his face that he's a little uncomfortable. He looks behind him before he answers me.
"Okay but not here come with me" he says.
He starts walking and I follow him in silence. James leads us to the stands where we sit down.
"So what do you want to know?" He asks "Well first I just wanted to tell you that he's in prison now if you want to go see him" I say "I'm not surprised but maybe I'll go see him"
"So yeah I just wanted to know who told you about the video?" I ask "Of Alex with your mom?" "Yeah that one" "Why are you asking this?" "Because sometimes I feel like Jennifer isn't telling us everything and I want to know where you get your informations so I can do the same" I answer. It's not a real reason but if it can get him to tell me...why not.
"The police told me" he says "Really? They can tell anyone just like that?"
I see that he's starting to be annoyed by my questions.
"I'm your dad's friend and I wanted to check on him" he answers "Don't you think you could've just asked to see him? Since you were at the police station"
He gets up and looks at me.
"Look Ella is you have a real question just ask it" he says.
I don't know what to answer. It's kinda scaring me I don't know why. Maybe because he's stood up and talked louder while I just stayed sitting.
"I don't know who do you think I am but I suggest you to leave me alone. I told you enough" he continues "You didn't say..." "Okay bye" he sad cutting me.
He just walks away and leaves me alone here. It's weird, he's weird. I don't really trust him but it's kinda interesting.
Later that day
Alex's POV
Somebody's coming to see me. Maybe it's the lawyer. He care earlier to make me sign the adoption papers.
I hope there's no problems with that. I hope it's Jen and the kids. I really want to see them again I miss them a lot. Now I'm stuck here for 25 years...fuck.
When I walk in the room where we get visits the only person I recognize is James. What is he doing here? I sit down facing him, still behind a glass.
"Hi Alex" he says "Hey"
"How are you? It's been a while" he asks "I'm not at my best" I answer
He doesn't say anything.
"So what are you doing here?" I ask "I can't visit my friend?" "Yeah you can but I just thought maybe there is a reason" "Well you're not completely wrong. There are some things I think you should know" "Like what?"
"Your kid, Ella, she's smart" he says "Of course she is" "She's curious too" "Stay away from her" "I'm trying but what do you want me to do if she comes to see me at the stadium" "She comes to see you?" "Yeah she wants to talk to me. Actually I was with her a couple of hours ago" "What does she wants?" "My vision of you or just some things about you in general" "And?" "I tell her what I think. You don't lie to kids right?"
He's getting on my nerves. Of course he's going to bullshit Ella about me
"At least she thinks a little not like Jennifer" he continues "Don't talk about Jen like that" "Or what? Her love for you is making her blind but I guess that's a good thing when you want her to believe you" "Stop it" "Girls like this are perfect for guys like you. Liars" "Shut up" "I'm the one out with your family" "Stay away from them" "I try.
I told Ella to stay away even though I don't think she will"
"You really came here for that? Fighting with me" I ask him. I'm so mad.
"I'm not here to fight alright just to talk" he answers
"I thought you were my friend I guess I was wrong" I say "What? I can't believe this. I did so many things for you Alex Rodriguez and what am I doing right now? I'm coming to inform you about things your family wouldn't tell you" "I wanted some better news than that" "I can't invent things and if you're going to react like this I think I'll go" "Okay go"
He gets up.
"Oh and next time Ella comes to see me for informations or something I'll tell her sorry but daddy wants me to stay away from you. I won't say anything else and she will still have doubts about you" "She will also have some on you" "Oh she already has just so you know. Like I told you earlier, she's bright"
I don't want him near any member of my family, especially not Ella she's just a kid after all.
