EVERYONE LIKES HIM. Everyone wants to be his friend.
But no one wants to get to know him.
He loves everyone more than they will ever know. More than anyone will ever like him.
Yuji pulls his knees to his chest. His back lies pressed to one side of that safe-space in the corner of his room. Silence rings in his ears like the voice of a friend he has never had. Though it is the first real one he will have ever made.
I like her. The words are a breath to his lungs. A lock around his throat. He thinks of your face even through the darkness of the room. I really do.
He wonders what would happen if he told you. If he let himself look at you with all the love he hides inside himself. If he smiled at you with the happiness you sow into his heart with your gentle hands.
He plays with the cuff of his pants. His fingers sense nothing as he fondles with the edge of the article of clothing. He makes each movement small. Hides himself even when he does nothing that is at all bothering. Even through the numbness that swallows him up.
"What's wrong with you?" he scoffs at himself, the laugh that escapes him a derisive breath. "Getting so worked up over her. She's just—"
He falters. Almost chokes on the lie.
She is just everything he has ever wanted.
When he wakes in that same corner, with that same darkness, the first thoughts that come to him are many of you.
Yuji does not bother changing out of yesterday's uniform. He walks out the door with the same weight on his chest. The same mask on his face.
And meets you with the same love he will never let show.
