chapter five

LUCA MEYER SAT BY THE fifth row on the left side of the auditorium when he got a call saying that his daughter disappeared.

for the second time in his life, he felt his heart drop to his stomach. the first time was when he found out that his beloved wife, andrea, who he loved and still loves half of his heart. the other half was owned by his lovely daughter lina.

the first time he saw lina was when she was a baby, she was still covered in blood since she just came out after andrea's womb but luca wasn't bothered and press a kiss on lina's forehead.

luca prayed that his daughter was fine as he was driving through the dark rainy street. lina is fine. lina is fine. lina is fine. the three words kept repeating to his head hoping that his daughter was standing next to jonas, clinging to him.

but that hope soon died when he arrived at the place. his daughter was nowhere to be seen. luca climbed out of his car and immediately stalked toward the timid kahnwald who is wearing his signature raincoat.

he gripped jonas' collar and pulled him closer, "jonas! where is she?!" but the boy just stared at him with entranced and worry-filled eyes.

hannah kahnwald pulled luca's shoulder and pulled him away from jonas and hugged the boy not before sparing luca a sympathetic glance.

luca ran through the forest along with ulrich neilsen the father of the boy, mikkel, who is also missing along with lina and the other staff of police, shouting mikkel's and lina's names.

they continued the search until dawn.

ulrich neilsen walked through the forest drained, it was currently 10:57 am. he had sent luca meyer home seeing as the man was tired.

ulrich retraced the way to the cave, thinking, which direction did the group run? he retraced back the group's footsteps from the street to the cave and back to the street.

ulrich walked through the direction to where jonas, mikkel, and lina ran. he heard a crunch underneath his feet and saw a gold necklace, it was a locket, he opened the locket and saw the picture of luca and andrea meyer on the left side and lina's on the right one.

he immediately stood up and walked down a little bit and saw a small little cave. he first saw lina's nike shoe and he slowly looks up and saw lina's body covered in leaves, a small puddle of blood pooling under her head.

ulrich immediately rushed to her and grabbed her body trying to stop the bleeding and shouted, "medics!"

luca sat at their dining table, waiting. he did not get any sleep even though ulrich instructed him to do it, well how could he? how could he go to sleep especially since the only family he got is currently missing? he already lost his wife, he's not going to lose his daughter too.

suddenly the ringtone of the meyer's telephone broke him out of his thoughts and had an instinct to yell, "lin, the phone's ringing!" to which lina will reply, "coming!" it was their little thing, but he remembered that lina wasn't there to answer him.

he stood up immediately, the chair that he was sitting in fell but he paid no mind to it, "hello?" he answered, scared to know what news will be waiting for him.

"it's ulrich. we found lina, the good news is she's is alive. the bad news is she's in the hospital."

luca lets out a large exhale, "oh thank god," even though lina is in the hospital it doesn't matter 'cause she's alive. that's all he wanted to hear.

jonas stared at the water pouring down to the drain from his body, the clear water tainted with muddy brown color.

lin. mikkel.

the names that he could only think of right now. he can't explain the feeling he feels right now.

guilty, sad, mad, worry.

guilty because if only he hadn't tripped then lina and mikkel wouldn't be missing right now.

sad and worry for the two.

mad...at himself.

he got out of the shower, stared at his reflection in the mirror. a knock startled him, "jonas? are you done?" said his mom, hannah.

he slowly opened the door, stared at his mom before tears went down on his face. he collapsed in his mother's arms, crying.

hannah tried to comfort him, she knew the guilt her son is feeling right now. she whispered some comforting words, hoping to make her son feel better.

a telephone ring echoed the house, hannah got up and whispered, "i'll be back," to jonas.

"hello?" hannah answered the phone.

hannah puts a hand over her mouth, shock and relief filled her. she hanged up the phone, ran upstairs to jonas' room.

"jonas! grab your coat, we're going to the hospital."

"what? why?" jonas slowly standing up from his bed, observing his mom.

hannah stopped what she was doing and turned slowly to face him, "they found lina."

and with that, the mother and son left their house in a hurry.
