Warnings: None.

Lillian stood amongst the crowd of people gathered for the election. She gnawed at her nails as her eyes darted between the candidates.

Each had their downsides, and Lillian was worried about any of them winning.

But she had a sinking feeling in her gut that whoever was chosen would be the downfall of the country.

Niki and Fundy were the first ones out. That made sense, they came in a little later and didn't have a strong argument, as if they were only in it to see someone else lose.

POG2020, or Wilbur and Tommy's party, seemed to be in the lead.

Except, Jschlatt and Quackity had an agreement to combine their campaigns, making their votes add up.

Schlatt won by a mere 1%.

Chaos ensued.

Schlatt's first decree was revoking the citizenship of Tommy and Wilbur, and George and Quackity chased them down, shooting arrows at the pair.

Niki cried out and Lillian's first instinct was to run, so she ducked behind a pillar to escape the chaos.

The days following were hell.

Upon returning to her cave base, Lillian had immediately burst into tears on her floor. She was feeling a mixture of emotions ranging from fear to unbridled rage.

She ended up falling asleep there.

She awoke the next morning to a pounding at her door.

She scrambled to open it, only to find George there.

"Hey George. What's up?"

"President Schlatt wanted me to give this to you."

He shoved a paper in Lillian's hands and then vanished. Leaving her standing in her doorway, dazed and confused.

She read the paper.

President Jschlatt's decree.
As of September 23rd, 2020, President Jschlatt orders that Lillantheduck pay twelve emeralds in taxes monthly to the president, starting on the above date. Failire to do so will result in an immediate arrest by Secretary of State Tubbo or cabinet member Georgenotfound.

Goddamnit!

Lillian sighed and the groaned. What the actual fuck.

As she finished reading, she saw Jschlatt in the distance.

Quickly, she ran into her house, not even bothering to shut her door, and started frantically searching her chests for these twelve emeralds.

She found a stack in one of the chests and claimed twelve of them just as Jschlatt appeared in her doorway.

"'Mornin, girlie. Got my taxes for me?"

Lillian rolled her eyes at the nickname but handed over the twelve emeralds. She could smell whiskey on the President's breath, and his speech and the way he walked was a dead giveaway that he had just a bit too much to drink.

"Ah. Thank you, sweetheart. Hey, if you see that Niki girl, send her my way, will ya? George said she didn't answer the door when he knocked."

And the president stumbled away.

Niki didn't answer her door? Odd.

Well. It was easy to get to the other woman's house without suspicion, as weeks ago the pair had mined a tunnel to eachother's bases, just incase.

So, Lillian headed to Niki's base.

The base wasn't empty, by any means.

Niki sat on her bed, the decree on her bed, torn to shreds.

"Niki."

The woman jumped and yelped, but relaxed when she realized it was only Lillian.

"Did you get one of these too?" Niki asked, gesturing wity a hand to the ripped up decree.

"Yeah. George came and kind of just shoved it in my hand and left. And then almost immediately after Schlatt came to collect taxes. I'm lucky to have had a stack but seriously. I find it a little excessive."

"I talked to a few other residents of Manburg. They said they didn't have any change of taxes."

"So is it just the girls then?"

Niki nodded. "I think so. At least it's only once a month, right? It could be worse."

Lillian nodded, but the venom dripping from her voice told Lillian that Niki wss more angry then she was letting on.

"I have a stack, well, a stack minus the tweleve I just paid if you need some. And I trade with villagers all of the time so if you ever need emeralds you can always steal mine."

"Yeah. I could. Thanks Lillian."

"Let me know if you need anything at all Niki, alright? I've got some mining to do, but hang in there."

And Lillian left, worried sick about Niki. She was hardly ever this angry.

Hopefully things would get better.

But somehow, Lillian doubted it.
