Based on the song terrible things by Mayday Parade💘
---------------
By the time I was your age I'd give anything
To fall in love truly, was all I could think
That's when I met your mother, the girl of my dreams
The most beautiful woman that is ever seen

"Dad can you tell me a bedtime story?" An eight year old Darien asked his father, who was about to close the door of his son's bedroom.

"Err, I don't know son." His father answered, scratching the back of his head with a frown.

"Please dad, I'm not tired." Darien pouted, crossing his arms over his chest.

"Okay." His father closed the door and sat at the end of Darien's bed. Darien smiled and pulled the covers up to his chin.

"Umm.... okay, what story do you want to hear?"

"Tell me about how you met mom."

Darien's father's face paled, but a small smile crept onto his face.

"It was back in college. I was 19 and she was 18. I saw her in the art room as I was passing to go to the music room. She was wearing a tank top with a flannel and some ripped skinny jeans, and her ebony hair was in a messy bun. She was the most beautiful woman that I'd ever seen. She seemed to be deeply concentrated on her painting. In that moment she turned around and I caught sight of her eyes. They were so beautiful. Ocean blue that told of many secrets and dreams, very much like yours." His father looked down at him with a look of adoration, and moved Darien's bangs out of his eyes.

"We stared at each other for a few moments, then she blushed and turned back around. After that, we'd see each other in the hallway and share secret glances, like it was our own little secret."

She said "Boy can I tell you a wonderful thing?
I can't help but notice, you're staring at me
I know I shouldn't say this but I really believe,
I can tell by your eyes that your in love with me.'

Now son, I'm only telling you this
Because life can do terrible things.

"We occasionally started to hang out. She became my best friend, I told her everything. My secrets, my dreams, my goals, my hardships, everything. She was someone I could confide in, and I became her someone. Eventually, she was the one who dared break the ice. She told me her feelings for me, then she kissed me. After that, we started dating and became closer than ever."

Now, most of the time we'd have to much to drink
And we'd laugh at the stars and we'd share everything
Too young to notice, and too dumb to care
Love was a story that couldn't compare.

"We'd been together for a long time before we wed. It was about four years. We have been through so much together. Even after all the heartaches and problems, we never left each other, and our love never dimmed. Our love only got stronger over time. When we were both sure of our future and our careers, I asked her the big question." Darien's father smiled sadly as tears gathered in his eyes.

I said "Girl, can I tell you a wonderful thing?
I made you a present with paper and string.
Open with care now, I'm asking you please.
You know that I love you, will you marry me?"

"I took her to the cliff side overlooking the city where we shared our first kiss with each other. We had a small picnic dinner there while the sun was setting. When we finished, we laid on the picnic blanket and listened to music through the car stereo and watched the stars. Around midnight, where the world was it's darkest and the stars were it's brightest, I sat her down on the car's hood and took her hand in mine. What she didn't know was that I set up big neon lights on a nearby building, with the help of my friends of course. I switched on our song, and I knelt down on one knee. I still remember ever single word I told her. The neon lights switched on and illuminated the night sky brighter than the stars ever could that night. And she said yes."
