Serena wrapped her sweater tighter around her body as another breeze of winter air past by. The street was filled with twinkling lights and people bustling around to get last minute shopping done. Squeezing through people seemed to be a real hassle, so Serena decided to take a detour through the park. She didn't know where she was going, but it seemed she would get there easier through the park. She stopped to take a break, sitting on a bench overlooking the nearby lake. Serena smiled at the street lights reflecting off the waters surface. An arrangement of blue, red, greens, and whites were sorted out to form christmas trees, bells, and many other things. She sighed.
December 25th. It seemed so far away, yet it was right around the corner. Only two days away. Andrews party was tomorrow, and the girls were bound to drag her to it. Darien was still in America. He was supposed to arrive today, but her hopes were shattered earlier today when she received an unexpected call from him. Apparently, many flights were getting delayed and canceled due to the weather. He said he would call if he could get a flight, but it wasn't likely. The thought brought tears to her eyes.
This would be the first year since they have been together that they would be apart. After what happened with Galaxia a few months ago, she was still frightened to let him leave. He went back to Harvard about four months ago, and she hasn't seen him since. She knows he's okay. They text each other almost everyday, or talk on the phone. Still, she can't help but feel....scared. 'Who knows, maybe he'll get killed again and I wouldn't even know it' She thought.
She shook her head. How could she think such things. 'He was fine. He's living out his dream, studying to be a doctor. He's happy.' She repeated that in her head, not even realizing her phone was ringing until it was on it's third ring. Hastily digging in her jean pockets, she pulled out her slim, silver phone and pushed accept call when she saw Darien's name.
"Hello." She cringed at how neutral her voice sounded.
"Hey Sere, you alright? You sound off." He replied, a hint of concern in his voice.
"Yeah, I'm fine. Just on my way home."
"Okay, well I have some good news!" Her lips tilted up a bit at his excitement.
"Really? What is it?"
"I found a flight! I'm leaving in about an hour. I'll get there sometime tomorrow afternoon. I'll be there in time for christmas!" Her face broke out into an excited expression.
"Wow, that's great Dare! I can't wait to see you! I've missed you so much!"
"I know Sere, I miss you too. Don't worry, we'll see each other soon. Until then, get home safe. I don't want my angel to be roaming the streets so late, Okay?" She giggled.
"You worry too much! I'm fine."
"I worry because I love you."
"I love you too. Well I guess I better get home. Call me before you board the plane. Be careful and get some rest, you got a long flight."
"I will. I love you." Serena grinned.
"I love you too. Bye Dare."
"Bye princess"
She smiled as she shut off her phone screen. Somehow, she knew this christmas was gonna be a good one.
