I left my Father with Nolan as the first Enforcer walked through the office door. James Howell didn't look any different than the other Enforcers Nolan has on his bankroll. He was an average sized Lupilor male in a basic black business suit, white shirt and black tie. Nolan liked his Enforcers to look like the time period he grew up in. His Enforcers look like Presidential Secret Service men.
But that is not the job for me. Never has been.
I would make an excellent Enforcer. I'm bigger than all of them and more physically fit, but I'm not interested in doing the Alpha's dirty work. Besides, I see Nolan enough. I don't want to be that close to him...daily.
As I approached the elevator, it opened and two more Enforcers got out. Bill Blood and John Cox walked by me but neither one bothered to acknowledge me. After all, I'm just the Alpha's 'pet'...not worth anything to the Enforcers.
They all think they're the biggest, baddest and the meanest...and I let them all think that. I don't want their job, nor do I want to be the one that controls them either. I just want to hang out with my friends, date Lola and enjoy life.
Isn't that what anyone wants? To just kick back, enjoy your friends, drink some beer, get laid by a beautiful woman and fuck the rest? Well, it's all I want.
I got into the elevator and pushed the button for the lobby. Our building only has four floors, it's not a long trip down, but just enough time for me to send Lola a text message telling her I couldn't wait to see her again. I wish I could inform her on what's going on, but there really is no way to explain it without exposing more detail than I wish to at this time.
I slipped my cell into my front suit pocket and stepped off the elevator as two more Enforcers stepped inside. Henry Butcher and Phillip Stalker passed by with their usual air of arrogance they have about them.
I didn't really care. My goal was to get to the coffee shop for a 'real' cup of coffee, not that cold crap Ava was trying to entice me with. I could use a cup. I'm tired.
My phone beeped as I made my way towards the busy little coffee shop. I removed it out of my suit pocket, figuring it had to have been Lola responding to my text message but it wasn't. It was Ancel texting me that he was at O'Hare boarding his flight to Reno now and should arrive on flight 144 at 5:30.
I was deeply relieved to see the message from my friend. It meant he was out of Europe and safe here in the States. Soon, he will be safe here in Tahoe with people that won't turn their backs on him.
I quickly lost my interest in a cup of coffee and I turned myself about to head back towards the elevator. Jarhead is downstairs in the IT department. I decided to stop by to tell him of Ancel's text.
I stepped inside the elevator and this time, pushed the button for the basement. As the doors closed I could see three more of Nolan's Enforcers crossing the lobby headed for the elevator. Nolan has a crew of ten Enforcers. Eight of them are here, as instructed, the last two will not leave their assigned posts. Two Enforcers guard Alena Savage at all times when Nolan is not home.
Alena is human and the Pack Alpha's wife. Not everyone is thrilled with the idea that the Alpha has a human wife. She is guarded for her own protection when Nolan is not at home.
I left the elevator and stepped out into a maze of white walls and white hallways. Down here in the bowels of the building, not only the IT department is here but the maintenance team as well. IT to the right and maintenance to the left. I turned to the right and followed the motivational posters about teamwork till the hallway opened up into a room with several desks and a multitude of computers.
