"Hey, ____, they say that kissing is a language of love, so would you mind starting a conversation with me?" From behind you, Han Solo smirked, chuckling at his own pick-up line.
Unfortunately for you, this form of torture had started almost a week ago, with the pilot giving you one of his 'Solo originals' before asking for a date. By now, you were starting to get used to it, in fact, you started messing with him by acting as if he weren't even there. For the most part, it seemed to work, but not today. "I know you can hear me, darlin'. Now you gonna give me a kiss, or are ya gonna leave me hanging?"
You resisted the rising urge to roll your eyes. He wasn't worth your time, especially as you were working on the ship belonging to the pilot you truly had your eyes on, Luke Skywalker. Of course, you weren't alone, as it seemed almost everyone on base had a thing for the newest 'hero' of the Rebellion, but still, a girl could dream, right?
Unbeknownst to you, Luke had walked into the hangar, looking to check up on his prized X-Wing and more importantly, on the lovely mechanic working on it after his last mission. However, when he noticed his best friend leaned up against the wall behind where you were tinkering with his starfighter, he paused. Luke noticed how the cocky smuggler smirked, no doubt trying out a few more of his pick-up lines that he's always encouraging Luke to try out. This had started to become normal, each day he would find Han harassing you in some way until he could come to your rescue. Today was no different.
Your eyes locked with his as you noticed him from underneath his X-Wing. You mouthed a plea for him to come save you from the smuggler standing not two feet from you, talking as if you were actually listening. Luke chuckled before nodding, but he thought he'd have a little fun before coming to your aid.
He approached the X-Wing, leaned up against it, and smoothly asked, "Hey ____, do you you believe in love at first sight, or do I need to walk by again." He smirked, exaggerating his strides as he walked past you towards Han. In that moment he wasn't sure which was funnier, the snort that escaped your lips as you laughed or the incredulous look plastered on Han's face.
You rolled out from underneath the ship, finally able to compose yourself enough to face him, "I think Han beat you to that one, Blondie." Han hmphed, giving Luke a look that said Beat that, kid.
Luke didn't miss a beat as he turned back to you, grinning like a fool, "Hey, ____, I think you look like my next girlfriend. What do you think?" He gave you a cheesy wink that made your heart flutter just a little. Han huffed, clearly not impressed. In that moment you realized what Luke already had, Luke's cliché flirting was starting to agitate Han.
You quickly rose to your feet, joining in on Luke's fun, "Aw, how sweet, but I've got one for you now." You looked over at Han, making sure he was listening, "Did it hurt when you fell from heaven?" Han mumbled something sarcastic under his breath, but you continued, choosing to brush a piece of hair out of Luke s face, "How about when you fell for me?"
Luke's cheeks deepened to a soft shade of red. He had only meant to frustrate Han, but as you flirted with him, he couldn't help blush fiercely. Truthfully, he had fallen for you just a few weeks ago after you had so sweetly offered to teach him the ropes of fixing his own ship in case he were ever stranded on a mission. You had been so passionate about your work that he walked away from the lesson knowing more about the way your eyes lit up as you spoke about something you loved than the simple maintenance he was supposed to learn.
Now, he saw that same look in your eyes, but now, it was directed at him. Surely you didn't feel the same way as he felt for you. He was just another pilot with a ship for you to fix, right? He suddenly realized he had left you hanging, but instead of trying to further agitate Han, he decided to go with it, "It hurt a little. Still got the scar to prove it."
You gave him a look of shock. That wasn't part of the plan. Was it? Internally, you wanted nothing more than for him to have meant what he just said, however, you weren't able to differentiate between the prank and the deeper meaning. Han, however, was able to read between the lines. Now, it was his turn to grin as he watched you try to process the fact that Luke had just confessed that he had fallen for you.
Finally, you noticed Han's smug look and let the realization hit you that Luke had meant what he said. This time, you didn't have a witty comeback as you stood there speechless. Luke smiled sweetly, noticing your dilemma, "____, would you like to go out on a date with me sometime?"
Finally finding your voice, you replied, "I'd love to, Luke."
"Alright, meet me back here at 8?" he shyly asked.
You winked at him, "It's a date." Luke left in a hurry, not able to contain his excitement for a moment longer.
Han spoke out from behind you, "Wow, I was out-flirted by a farm-boy."
You chuckled, "Don't worry, Han. I'm sure there's another girl on this base who would love to be harassed with pick-up lines." You playfully hit his shoulder, "Now out of my way. I have a date to get ready for."
