It was a sunny Friday evening and the great hall was slowly filling up with students, ready for a meal before bed. Elara had been sitting with her friends when someone approached her. She didn't know how to feel. Surprised? Shocked? Unsettled? Elara really didn't. In front of her stood a tall Ravenclaw. He had messy blonde hair that was dyed a green tint, brown eyes and was tall. She barely knew him. What was his name again?
"Listen Elara," he began. She was still trying to figure out his name. "I- uh- so well I think you're very pretty and like maybe can we go on a date?" What? They were stood in the hall and it was dinner. A few people had arrived but other than them the great hall was practically deserted. A few of the boy- OH Ethan Morse, that's his name- well a few of his friends were watching. They were all Ravenclaws as well. "We can go to Hogsmede and maybe get a butterbeer!" He seemed really nice and sweet, but him asking her out romantically didn't feel right. It didn't feel like butterflies were filling her stomach or that her heart was swelling. She didn't feel like it was her Romeo calling out for her. It didn't feel like she was Juliet standing and proclaiming her undying love for him. She felt blank. Was she broken?
Awkwardly, Elara fumbled with the sleeves of her sweater, looking at her shoes rather than meeting his awaiting gaze. "Ethan, I- uh- I don't really feel that way about you. I-It's not that you aren't special, it-it's just I don't like you- erm- romantically," she felt awful saying that due to how shell shocked he looked in that moment, but it was all honestly. In fact, she did like him first year but when he got with another girl in second year, she wasn't heartbroken. In fact, during her first year she'd blush whenever he'd smile at her and she felt giddy when he'd ask her stuff. The two had actually become friends. However, the more she spent with Hermione, the more she forgot about him. However when this girl - Marietta Logan - got with him during second year, she couldn't help but think about how his "girlfriend" was so pretty. She admired Ethan a lot during her first year and must've mistaken that admiration for love or something. She felt like she tried forcing herself into the typical 'guys and girls cannot be friends' trope that she despised in literature. Sure, she felt sad to an extent, but she was thirteen, she wasn't meant to know what love felt like. "Ethan, you are amazing, I bet you'll get someone soon, it's just I don't like you," she offered him a smile, but still felt an ache in her chest when he wandered away with a devastated look flashed on his face. She turned to sit back and enjoy her food, ignoring the stares of confusion from her friends. They couldn't help but remember when Elara had told them how cute he was in first year. Lois and Gaia shared a knowing look and unknowingly held hands under the table.
"E-El w-what w-was t-that about?" Wisteria queried. She poked her chicken with her fork and plopped the chicken into her mouth.
"This boy asked me out," Elara said in a monotone voice. Her mind was still processing everything. I liked him in first year, why didn't I just say yes? "I said no because he isn't my type," then what was he?
