CHAPTER SIX – Secretly Broken
2 days later, and it was Tuesday. Classes started again. Jake was early at the lunch table. He was already eating his lunch while his friends were in line. After few moments, his friends were joining him too. As they were eating their desserts, Mike blurted out, “So, how did the date go, Jake?”
“Yea Jake, how did it go?” Bree asked while everybody was starting to tease him.
“Well, it went great. Really, it was one of the best yet awkward nights I had.” Jake replied while eating a spoonful of strawberry cake.
“So are you asking Lisa out for a second date?” Josh curiously asked as he pushed his tray upfront to lean on the table.
“Actually, I did.” Jake replied with a big witty smile in his face.
Everyone was silent for a moment until Ryne blurted out, “Good for you, Jake!”
Everyone was awkwardly silent until the school bell rang. Jake and his friends stood up and returned their trays and headed outside the cafeteria to their respective classes. As they were going out, Bree took a glance at Ryne who was faking a smile all throughout the whole time. When the other four parted their ways, Bree took Ryne by hands. While she was surprised, Ryne said, “What’s wrong?”
“Oh nothing, it’s just I was wondering how you are holding up with this.” Bree asked as they were walking in the hallway.
“Well, I’m pretty much hurt but I’m holding on.” Ryne replied.
“That’s good to know, Ryne.” Bree replied back as they went inside their classroom.
After their classes, everyone went home. Jake went to his usual hang-out. He went to the cliffs with his guitar and his bag pack. Few minute when he was emoting in the cliffs, he felt like someone was sneaking behind his back. He felt the urge to turn around and he did. While turning around, he saw Ryne.
“Hi Jakie, what ‘cha doing?” Ryne asked as she sat down beside Jake.
“Oh nothing, just the same old thing.” Jake replied with clenching his fist and giving a hard grip on his pencil.
“So, how’s our song going?” Ryne asked again.
“It’s going great so far but…” Jake replied.
“But what?” Ryne asked.
“But it’s not yet finished. We never got the chance to write it together.” Jake replied.
“We never got the chance to write it because we’re too busy from our different lives.” Ryne replied back.
“Can we write it now?” Jake asked.
“Now? I’m not in the mood now but I’ll try to.” Ryne replied.
“Are you sure?” Jake asked.
“Yeah, why not.” Ryne replied.
“Um, so, got any ideas for some lines?” Jake asked.
Ryne was silent for a moment. Jake stared at Ryne until she looked back at him.
“Give me your notes, Jakie.” Ryne demanded. Jake reached for his bag, opened it and searched for his notebook.
“Here’s my notes Ryne.” Jake said as he handed her his notebook.
Ryne received the notebook and opened it immediately and searched for the pages where they wrote there lines. Ryne ran her hands through the title which read ‘Our Dreams.’ It was bedazzled with bright neon colors. She ran her fingers through the lyrics that said:
