"Taehyung, talk to me." The voice from the other line trembles with desperation. "Please."

"There's nothing left to talk about." His voice was cold, tone bitter as if he was spitting out venom. "Go and get some rest. We're both tired." Even if he was trying to end their conversation then and there, his inner guilt was killing him.

Taehyung's eyes brimmed with tears, a lump forming up on his throat as he grips on his phone tighter that his hand started to shake. "You can do that, right? To forget about me?"

-3 years ago-

It all started with a simple glance and greeting. Taehyung was never the one to assume that someone would actually like him, but he figured that maybe he was just hard on himself.

He wasn't an outcast, let alone a bully target. Taehyung could easily make tons of friends but since he was too shy to start conversations; he was always found alone or with just one person- but never in groups.

So why, above everyone else out there- was he chosen to be Jungkook's newfound friend?

"Hello, you must be Kim Taehyung from Class A?" The latter's voice was calming, approaching the shy boy carefully as if he'll run away within a blink of an eye.

"Ah, yes- it's me.." Taehyung wasn't able to meet his eyes, cheeks flushed pink from how flustered he was. "Is there- anything I could do for you?"

"Well, not that much." Jungkook sat down beside Taehyung, staring at the open field of their campus. "It's just that you always looked lonely, you know? I just thought that maybe you would want to be my friend?"

Taehyung felt his heart skip a beat. Jeon Jungkook, the school's popular boy was asking him to be his friend? "Wait- what? You want me to be your.."

"Friend? Er, yeah. You seem to be easygoing so I figured that we wouldn't have a hard time catching up with each other." Jungkook gave him an assuring smile, trying to show Taehyung that he never meant any harm. "So? What do ya say? We can eat lunch together, or maybe teach me how to pass my homeworks on time?"

Taehyung laughs at his suggestion, his infamous box smile on display to which immediately captured the latter's heart.

It was as if Jungkook went through the famous love at first sight scenarios.

"I mean.. If you really want that to happen then-" Just when Taehyung was about to agree, he catches Jungkook's group from afar- whispering and laughing at each other whilst spectating the two of them who had just started a conversation.

Taehyung felt his smile falter. His heart drops to his stomach, eyes wide as he cautiously moved away from Jungkook. "Hey, what's wrong? Are you okay-"
