A L E X I S

I gasped when I crashed into something that caused my food to spill.

**

My glasses fell off the bridge of my nose so I went down to pick it up.

My whole body trembled in fear that I wasted a lot of time trying to pick my glasses. After I put it on, my eyes landed on the shoes of who I
walked into.

Shit. Please don't tell me it's who I think it is.

I mustered up courage and took a deep breath before I looked up at my doom.

Remember when I asked if this day could get worse? Well It just did.

Here I stood eye to eye with Christina Hollister which I immediately lowered. Christina always had this hate for me right from middle school and I never knew why, it only got worse when we entered high school and she became popular for sleeping around with a senior when we were still in our freshman year.

"Oh?" Her small lips turned into a smirk. "It's you." She crossed her hand.

"I'm sorry Christina." I immediately apologized with my head lowered.

Her ocean blue eyes turned evil in a single second, "Look at what you did, you bitch!" She yelled attracting a small crowd. "How dare you pour your cheap food on my dress!" She scolded.

Well technically it's cafeteria food which you also eat so I don't think it's that cheap.

"Leave her alone." Andy defended.

"Aww nerd love, yuck!" The tall brunette behind Christina commented with disdain.

At this point all eyes were on us which is what I didn't want. I wanted a quiet senior year and it's just the first day.

"Now she's acting dumb!" The redhead at the other side of Christina mocked.

Shut up!

"I'm sorry." I muttered.

"Sorry isn't gonna cut it loser, do you know how much these clothes cost? You wouldn't even be able to afford it even if you sold your house idiot!" Christina yelled.

"I-I'm sorry." My eyes welled up.

"Leave her alone bitch!" A familiar voice filled the cafeteria.

"The slut and the nerd!" The brunette from earlier mocked.

"Shut up you puppet!" Jazz shot back at her and she went quiet.

"Aww isn't this cute? The bitch who tried to have her way with my man has the nerve to cause a scene?" Christina sighed.

"Me causing a scene? We're literally standing in the center of the cafeteria and everyone's watching and I'm causing a scene? Do you even know the meaning of the word?" Jasmine attacked.

"Of course she knows it." The redhead backed her up.

"If she knows that, then she should also know that her dress needs to go to be washed immediately to get all the grease out." Jasmine suggested.

"I'm only letting this go because I'm in a good mood. Let's go girls." She instructed her crew and they all strutted out the cafeteria.

"Are you okay?" Jasmine held my shoulders and I replied with a nod after which she pulled me in for a hug.

The hug was needed, I was far from okay but there's always something about the way Jasmine held me. It felt so peaceful and reassuring.

I spent the rest of the day quiet and on my own. When school was over, Jasmine offered to drop me off at home but I declined because I thought a walk would do me good.

After Jazz left, Andy offered to walk with me and I agreed because i needed the company. It was a silent walk home.

Andy then cleared his throat. "How was school today?" He asked as an attempt to start a conversation but he paused.

I gave him a blank look and he realized his question. "I'm sorry, that was a stupid question." He apologized in a low tone.

"You sound like a dad asking that question." I chuckled.

"I was only trying to start a conversation because you've been quiet." Andy replied.

"It's nothing, I just don't know what to say."

"I'm sorry I just stood there unable to help you, I wasn't sure about what to do." He apologized again.

"Hey, it's fine. I don't want to burden people with my actions." I smiled.

The walk went back to being silent but it was a good kind of silent. It was comfortable. After walking for another five minutes, I successfully got to my family's cafe and Andy went on his way.

Our cafe is quite old. A rundown bungalow which my dad started when him and my mom got married but after he passed away my mom tried to run it but it wasn't really easy because she also had a job as a housekeeper.

When I entered the store, the smell of coffee and baked goods hit my nose causing me to close my eyes to appreciate it.

I  was greeted by George, the barista who was taking an order from the customer seated.

"Isn't my mom back yet?" I asked as soon as I got close him.

"No, she said she would be late today." He answered with a smile.

My eyes move to Tatiana, Taty cleans up the store, she's in her twenties, while George in his mid thirties.

From the distance, I could see Sophie at the register, I walked over to her and greeted her.

"How was school today?"

"Can people quit asking me how my day was?! Because if you all must know, it was just horrible!" I transferred my pent up frustration to her.

"Do you want to go home? We don't really have that much customers anyway." Sophie asked.

"No, I'm good. I need the distraction." I answered as I dropped my bag behind the counter and put on an apron.

"Table three." She instructed and I nodded. I grabbed a pen and a notepad before making my way to the table.

I made my way to table three where I noticed the girls were twins. "What would you like to have?" I asked.

They both looked at each other and then at me,  "An ice tea." They said in a unison.

"I'll be right back with your order." I smiled to them before taking the order to George.

Although Sophie went home for the day, the cafe was bustling with customers which was good news to us because my mom has been trying to bring the restaurant back to it's origin glory since my dad passed away.

I closed the shop after our last customer left while George, Tati and I all shared the leftovers before going on our way.
