Draco woke up in a cold sweat; the memories of his dream echoing hauntingly in his head.
Kill the snake.
He sat up, covering his face in his hands as he waited for his furiously pounding heart to calm down.
"Drac?" Blaire whispered sleepily, causing him to shiver as he felt her place delicate fingertips upon his arm; his left arm where the Dark Mark lay.
He shakily lowered his hands, looking down at his beautiful best friend... his soulmate.
"Bad dream," he murmured, leaning down to lightly brush his lips against her forehead. "Go back to sleep, love."
Careful not to disturb their sleeping son who lay curled on her other side, Draco slid back down and wrapped Blaire tightly in his arms, welcoming the feel of her soft warm body pressed against his.
"Do you want to talk about it?" She whispered, her breath tickling his ear, causing a pleasant twitch beneath his boxers.
Fuck, he wanted her so much; but they'd never had the opportunity since that first night when he'd turned her down. It all seemed... inappropriate, given their situation. For a start, they were sharing a bedroom with both Jack and Scorpius now, and not to mention Orion who insisted on being with Jack at all times and so slept at the bottom of the bed.
Not that he minded. He loved their little family so much, never having imagined he could be this happy ever again. He yearned to keep them close by his side and protect them all.
But he also yearned to be with Blaire and to have her all to himself. He longed to lose himself inside her body and fuck her like he used to.
"Actually," he murmured softly, suddenly feeling wide awake despite it being the dead of night, "I wouldn't mind sneaking out and having some alone time with you."
But it wasn't just about sex, he told himself as he led her quietly out of the bedroom. It was about being with her.
They found themselves in the games room, the place where their teenage selves used to pull all nighters on beanbags, playing video games and stuffing themselves with Muggle snacks.
"It seems like only yesterday," Blaire said, her eyes sweeping fondly over to the corner where the entertainment system used to stand. "I remember all those times I thrashed you at Streetfighter."
"Liar," he smirked, pulling her down with him onto the sofa that was now there in place of the beanbags. "I think you'll find that I was the one doing the thrashing."
"You're seriously deluded, you know that, Drac?" Blaire drawled in amusement, her eyes shining brightly up at him. "You sucked at Muggle games, especially Monopoly."
"Fancy a game?" He asked, grinning wickedly, recalling how they rarely finished that game.
But Blaire just surveyed the empty room in confusion, clearly wondering with what.
Following her gaze, Draco suddenly felt a sadness hit him; a mourning for their old lives.
"I had everything sent to the summer house when I moved out," he explained, swallowing as he thought of the hours he'd spent there just missing her. "It was a place I could go to remember you. And then, when Astoria fell pregnant, I realised I needed to move on for the sake of my child and so I- I boxed it all away... I'm sorry."
His voice broke. The awfulness of having to admit this to her physically hurting his heart.
"Drac," Blaire breathed tenderly cupping her hand to his cheek. "I'm so sorry you had to go through all of that."
