"Stop kidding me, Sam." May crossed her arms. "Nick Blackoak visited you? Haha, sure."
"Not Nick Blackout," Sam corrected. "Nicholas Chester Storm."
"That's his real name, yeah, Blackoak is a pseudonym," May said. "That doesn't change a thing though!"
"I swear, everything I've told you is true." Sam sighed and shut her mouth when Michael Sweetwood entered the room. He was the class teacher of the girls, and taught German and PE. Despite being a teacher, Mr. Sweetwood wasn't even 30, so Sam sometimes suspected he'd skipped at least one year at some point in his school life.
"You ready for your report cards?" Mr. Sweetwood dropped some papers on his desk.
"We're getting them now already?" someone yelled, but the teacher laughed and ran his hand through his brown hair, pretending to be arrogant. "Nah, I will torture you for some more time. You'll get them in the last lesson, beforehand we'll have to prepare the classroom for the holidays. You gotta grab all your stuff from the shelves, and later we'll watch a movie."
Sam sighed in distress. That meant they wouldn't even have a break, and a break was all she needed right now to talk to May.

Three boring hours later, Sam and May finally left school for the summer holidays. All in all they were content with their report cards, but if they were honest they didn't look at them too closely. There were more important things now.
"So, to clarify," May said as they left the bus at their home station - they hadn't dared talking about this with all the people surrounding them. "Nick Blackoak wants to meet us at 5pm because he has a secret to tell?"
"Several, even. According to him." Sam showed her friend the wristband she'd picked up after Nick had left. "I found this right here on the ground, after Nick had left. Had left, yeah, he literally just disappeared on the spot. You know, I think... I think he's a vampire."
"Possible." May shrugged. "He's always kept personal stuff away from his fans, so why not?"

The girls sat on the porch, facing the path to the house.
Sam's Mum Anne - an electrician - and Sam's Dad Marc - an IT professional - had left a few minutes ago for a holiday with their friend group, and now the girls were alone, waiting for their guest. At this point May had also stopped doubting Sam's narration of yesterday.
And there he was. Nick Blackoak, coming along the way as if it was his own house. He waved as he saw the girls.
"Nick-" May stared at him and Sam nudged her. If she was honest she found May's fan behaviour a bit silly. Yeah, it was cool to meet Nick, but there was no reason to stare at him like that. And after all, she was still sceptical about why he was here.
With a gesture she offered him the seat opposite of the Hollywood swing the girls were sitting on.
"So, nice to see you again, Sam." Nick smiled at her, then turned to May. "And you are May, then?"
May nodded slowly. "Yeah, but- how do you know that?"
"Oh." Nick laughed nervously and his ice blue eyes sparkled. "We're starting right off with the secrets, aren't we?"
"That's what we're here for," Sam said though she felt how she started to trust him more and more.
"So well, then." Nick bit his lip and Sam flinched. Vampire teeth. So she had been right.
"I know your names because I'm your biological uncle. You're sisters."
Now THAT was unexpected, Sam thought as a smile appeared on her lips. Why did she believe him, without any proof? She didn't know, and she didn't need to because in that moment Nick pulled a family register book out of his pocket and showed them the official family tree.
"We've been lied to?" May whispered. "We've been told it was all pure coincidence and we weren't related..."
"So let me conclude," Sam mumbled, still smiling. "May is my twin and you are our uncle. Right?"
"Exactly." Nick's gaze strayed off for a second. "I know it's hard for you to understand, I mean, because I'm famous and all, but maybe we can still try to be a family?"
"For sure," May said and beamed, and the three of them joined in an awkward short hug.
"So, now I want to know-" Sam hesitated. "Do we have any biological family other than you? Are they still alive?"
Nick's bright eyes turned dark. "Nobody knows. As far as I know I'm the last one. You know, when your parents... left, they told me that if they wouldn't return I should visit you after your 15th birthday to tell you about everything."
"And you're the brother of-"
"Your mother. Annalena."
"Wait a minute-" May stared at Nick. "You are a vampire! Does that mean-"
A faint smile appeared on Nick's lips. "Your Mum and Dad are vampires too, and you two are vampires as well. You know, your parents were the countesss and count of the vampire kingdom. So technically, I'm a prince, and you are princesses."
"Kingdom?" Sam laughed insecurely. "First of all, wouldn't it be called a principality if they're counts? And second of all- Germany is a democracy, Nick!"
"I'm not talking about Germany. I am talking about the vampire kingdom," Nick said. "The vampire count and countess care for vampire stuff specifically. Obviously we all have to obey the official government, but we also have a government for things that humans don't want or need to care for."
"So-" Sam hesitated. "What does this mean for us?"
"Nothing at all." Nick's eyes strayed away for a second. "The kingdom was taken off our hands about fifteen years ago."
Before any of the girls could dig deeper, he turned back to them. "And you didn't know you're vampires?"
"We didn't, no." May frowned. "We don't have any magic powers, either."
"Oh, you do." Nick laughed. "You just haven't discovered them yet. That is normal for vampires who don't know who they really are. We suspect worldwide about a million cases of vampires who don't know they are vampires simply because nobody has told them."
"And what are our powers, then?" May asked.
"It's up to you to find it out." Nick sighed and turned to the setting sun, then looked at the girls again. "You do know what it means to be a vampire, right?"
Sam and May exchanged an insecure look.
"We don't have to drink blood like in the old legends-" Sam started.
"- and we can turn into a bat, right?" May continued. "Also we have special magic powers that differ from person to person."
"Correct. But if you use your powers you get exhausted pretty fast if you don't train them. So you should tell me when you discover them so that I can help you with that. Here's my phone number, by the way." Nick handed Sam a piece of paper. "And now, if you want to, I can tell you about our family."
