We’re quite a creative pack, as you could probably tell by our names. When we are first found and given to a Guardian they name us. Anyone can be a Guardian, the Elders (the oldest of Nightsiders) decide who gets a child depending on their attributes. They try to match the children to the Guardians. Then you’re stuck with that name and can only be changed by reputation.
Blood’s original name had been Sky, (I’m not entirely sure why) but her reputation of being almost as ruthless as me had given her the name Blood. Almost. But she was getting there as I was her mentor in a way.
Rat was found as a baby abandoned in a broken down warehouse infested with rats. He only just started hunting with us so hadn’t had the chance to change that name yet. Personally, I hope he does it soon.
Wolf –as his name so ingeniously suggests- was raised by wolves. He’s unique even amongst us and not just for his silver eyes. He’s the only one ever known to be raised by wolves but he’s also the oldest ever to be recruited in.
I was the hunter on duty when they brought him in. All of us had been found as babies or very young children- no one above 11 so far. We found Wolf when he was about 14, though he didn’t know how old he was so we had to guess. I helped Fate, his Guardian and my ex- Guardian, bring him up. I taught him how to speak and now we were working on reading and how to generally be, well… human.
