The hill, a peaceful place of comfort and memory, was our favorite place to meet at night. Above us, twilight hues splash across the sky in the sunset's dying light. Below, soft grasses nestle between our fingers. Hushed conversation passes between us only to be stolen away by a gentle spring breeze.
His fingers, warm and smooth, entwine in mine as droplets of orange and red dwindle over the horizon. We'd been seeing one another for nearly two years now. "Sugar," I murmur, his nickname rolling sweetly off my tongue, "I love you." I shift to lean on his shoulder, gazing up into hazel brown eyes.
"I love you too, ma chérie." His gaze connects with mine as a gentle smile dances on his lips. A familiar warmth lights in my chest at his soft words. Even after a year, his affirmations sparked emotions akin to our first days of dating. They never grew overused; rather, the heat only grew stronger.
On a whim, I fall back into the grass, giggling, tugging Suga down with me. Our hands part and connect again, the warm imprint of his touch sending shivers down my spine. The twilight sky stretches endlessly above as stars begin to twinkle out from depths of murky greys and blues. A comfortable silence settles between us as we lay together on the familiar hillside.
The ground beneath is strewn with mixture of soft mosses, grasses, and clovers. A few flowers poke out from the earth, the first blossoms of spring. Closing my eyes, the faint scent of earth worms through my mind. It digs up days of sun-filled laughter and firefly nights. Lost in memory, the haze of night sets into my drifting train of thought. The sensation of grass below me steals my consciousness away and sweeps me underneath a blanket of stars.
