They all were summoned by the blue fairy to watch their futures on the big screen. They were watching parts like where Audrey took the queen's crown and maleficent's sceptre. Their were some gasps and horrified cries from the auradonians, by seeing the off screen Audrey holding both the items.
Mal even tried to persuade her in giving back the belongings.but no, audrey didn't payed attention to her. But before it could escalate anymore further at that very moment, blue fairy told them to continue the viewing instead of taking the sceptre from audrey.
They continued through the rest of the viewing, but tragedy struck when this scene came.

"A flash of pink light punctuated Mal's exclamation and she threw her hands up, as if to protect her face. When it faded, statues of Ben, Evie, Carlos, Dude and Jay stood in front of her; wisps of pink smoke wafting around them."

Audrey stared at the screen in shock, as if unable to believe what was in front of her. She had actually done it, she had turned Ben to stone. The same Ben, her oldest friend, her best friend. The one who always saw the good in her.

"No..." she whispered, her grip on the scepter failing entirely at that point. The scepter fell from her hand, falling to the ground. Surprisingly, the gem didn't shatter as it hit the ground but the sound did draw everyone's attention. Either that, or it might have been the sound of her body hitting the ground as well.

"Audrey!" Aurora exclaimed and her parents rushed to her side. Audrey didn't stir, she was completely comatose. If one had come across her body and didn't see her fall, one might have thought she was dead.

"It's the Dragon's Eye curse," Mal said softly as she rushed over to Audrey's side as well. "While the scepter won't work for anyone not blood related to Maleficent or anyone without evil in their heart, it also has a curse on it. That anyone who's not Maleficent who touches the scepter will fall into a hundred year's sleep."

"Hades, do something, you can save her" Persephone urged her husband.
"Ok, let me try with my ember" he sighed and started using the ember to try and wake the former self titled queen of mean, who was lying her head in her mother's lap, while her father rubbing her hands.

But the ember didn't work. This sleeping spell was far more powerful, and true loves kiss didn't work on her, because chad tried but failed.
Hades shooked his head no.
Without anyone noticing, mal touched the sceptre, and asked that how they can wake up Audrey.
She was answered that, by being the next maleficent, because only a maleficent can break the curse bestowed upon someone, by the sceptre.

Mal, was in in dilemma, because from childhood, the only thing she feared was becoming her own mother, but she had to do something.
Because inspite of her being, maleficent's daughter, Both Aurora and Philip had welcomed her into their life's with open arms.and heart. They have loved her like their own daughter for the past year. So, she had to do something, for them.

She slowly walked towards the commotion, where silenced fell upon seeing her. She first went towards Ben and started saying.
"Ben, I'll always love you, please remember that" she said and kissed him. Ben was confused.
"There is only one way to save her, by me becoming the next maleficent" she added whereas the others found gasped loudly.
"Mal, no.."Evie tried saying but Mal didn't listen to her.
"I'll do it" she said determined. Ben tried to protests but failed.
Mal slowly took the sceptre in her hand and started chanting "I , Mal Bertha Fae Aidenous, daughter of Maleficent far, protector of Moors and Hades, lord of underworld, fiancee to King Benjamin Florian Beast of Auradon, hereby take my full name, and hence becoming the new maleficent after mother, along with my birth rights as the heir to the throne of Moors, and hence I break the curse set upon Princess Audrey by my own sceptre" she said loudly and clearly and tapped the sceptre thrice on the floor.

Slowly but surely Audrey started Waking up, people were overjoyed but the happiness was short lived, as mal started screaming in pain.
"Mal" Ben shouted and tried to calm his fiancee but to no avail.
They noticed that she was growing wings in her back, and it was really painful.
After 20 minutes of constant screaming she stopped and sighed a breath of relief. Her wings were beautiful, a mixture of black, blue aad purple. Everyone was in awe after seeing her. She looked really beautiful. Ben fell in love with her all over again.
She slowly and weakly stood up.
She started taking off the engagement ring from her hand, but Ben stopped her.
"Mal why are you doing?" He asked fearfully.
"Ben, I know, you would want to break up with me, as I'm now the new maleficent, I have these wings that are unwanted in Auradon, and as you are king, and by me becoming queen, you'll get a lot of backslash because of it. So we should break up. Its for the best. And I'll live my rest of life in Moors." she explained to the others. Ben was in for shock
"No Mal, I love you the way you are. With or without the wings, it doesn't matter to me. You are my true love, and I'm yours. You're my same little dragon with or without it. I love you so much. je t'aime mon petit dragon. " He said and kissed her.
After breaking the kiss, Audrey apologized, they forgave her because all this happened due to Leah's manipulation.
Audrey got back together with chad and they continued the viewing. But Mal knew Ben will still love her no matter what, and so does Ben.
