Chapter Two
October 12, 2012
"To Budapest." Clint and Natasha clinked their glasses of wine together. Merida hit her plastic cup against the glasses with a giggle. She didn't remember living in America, but her parents said that they had moved to Budapest two years ago, today.
"I think this was the best decision we've ever made," Natasha said, leaning back in her chair.
"I couldn't agree more," Clint replied.
"Me neither," Merida chimed in.
The two former Avengers grinned at their daughter. They were happy in Budapest, and Merida was growing into a beautiful young girl. Her red hair had become uncontrollable and curly, and Clint and Natasha often wondered which side it came from. Clint was teaching her how to use a bow, and she was learning fast. She was a bright girl, and curious about the world around her. Their lives were perfect.
"So," Natasha said, as she put down her wine glass, "tomorrow, I'm taking Merida to interview for a pre-school."
"Why does she need an interview for pre-school?" Clint asked. After thinking about it for a moment, he added, "Why does she need a pre-school? She's two years old!"
"She's smart enough to start school early, and she needs to interview for it because she's two."
"Is she okay with this?" Clint looked at Merida, who nodded.
"I'm excited, Daddy," she said. "I want to go to school."
"Alright then, if that's what you want." He gave his daughter a proud smile. She was the complete opposite of him, not at all intimidated by the prospect of new people. He had gotten much better since he was a child, but Merida had never been like that.
Natasha placed her hand on her husband's. "She'll be alright, Clint. She's a brave little girl."
"I know." The waiter brought out their food, and they dug into their delicious Hungarian feast.
