You woke up early today...
Sitting on your living room floor, you braid your hair in anger but with care and gentleness. Of course, you were still pissed off that your boss told you to change your hair but then again what did you expect from that kind of workplace.
Staring in the distance, your mind finally noticed Banners' gaze. You finish your braid and smile to him. He quickly adverts his eyes, getting caught. "Your hair looks nice." He gathers himself and looks back to the tv. "Thank you but unfortunately I'm not done."
You say finally giving yourself a break. "Halfway done." You weakly cheer. "Do you have a laptop?" He asks out of nowhere. You process his question and rack your brain. "...I think I do." You dust off the stray hairs and stretch before going for a quick hunt.
He follows closely behind you. "There it is." You point to the top of your clothes closet. You both stand there awkwardly for a few seconds before you speak up. "Could you get it for me? Please." He reaches over your body and touches several things before the laptop. "Yeah, that's it."
He brings down the laptop. "Ok, I'll go get the charger." You quickly crunch down to a shoe box with a few chargers. Meeting him in the living room and resting the charger on the couch. Going back to your braiding activities, Banner types away on the laptop.
While completing your hair, questions were flying around. "Are you ever going back to the Avengers?" Was a question that stood out the most. You sat next to him, with freshly done braids. He tried many times to counter the question and avoid it entirely.
"You know what I mean. I'm not trying to kick you out or be mean." You chuckle and nudge him. "But." He looks at you. You lean on the ledge of the couch. "But, we all have priorities. Some more important than others, especially what you do." You get up and make a path to your room.
"One more day." He spits out. You pat him on the shoulder. "That's the spirit." You smile.
Moments pass and you were on the move again.
"I'll be back in a few hours." You exclaim, grabbing your keys and leaving. As the door closed you could hear a sigh. On the walk to the library, you felt eyes on you. 'Keep walking.' You repeated to yourself.
------
"Hey, y/n! New style?" You smile and nod to him. "Hey Wyatt. Yeah! Just did it today." He returns the smile as you sit on a stool by him. "So, I did yet another grindr date. And you will not believe who I hooked up with." He sits on a stool next to you.
You cross your legs and wave your hand motioning for him to continue the story. "Mr. Harry's son." Your jaw drops, eyes about to pop out its socket. "His "very straight all american" son." You put in air quotes as he shakes his head ferociously. "Was it good?" You ask leaning in.
"All that muscle how could it not be." He giggles and you playfully hit him in the shoulder. You laugh at his reaction. "What about you? I've told you tinder is just for hookups." You shake your head at him. "I can't, too busy. And no one wants a "pretty temper" as he would say."
You air quote again, huffing. He shakes his head with an annoyed face. "Y/n. How many times do I have to tell you to forget about him?" He grabs your shoulders, lightly shaking you. "I've lost count! Sorry but it sticks. I buy glass plates just to break them because I'm too broke to afford a rage room."
He lets go and rolls his eyes. "You rubbed off on me with that one. You're pretty and so what? People have to lose some steam every once in a while. Especially women. I just don't know how you do it." He rubs his forehead and gives a hopeful smile.
Before you could respond to his words someone interrupts. "Sorry to bother, I'm having trouble finding the science fiction section." A young lady asks. You get up from your seat. "The science fiction can be hard to find. Follow me." You smile and walk from behind the counter.
"Sorry again." She says. You turn a corner and begin to walk up some steps. "Don't be. This library is surprisingly big and where they put the science fiction section was a weird place." You assure her. She bobs her head and thanks you. "No problem." You smile and take your leave.
On your way back to the front desk, you get captivated by some new books. You walk up to the shelf and examine a book. "An avengers saga? Interesting..." You put the book down and look around more. You skimmed the mystery shelf's for a specific book.
You widely grin and do a little happy dance. "They finally have a new book." You take the book to the front desk. Not seeing Wyatt. 'He's probably in the back.' You sigh and sit. "Sherlock Holmes." You read the cover and smile. "Are you Y/n L/n?"
You put down the book and look up to a man dressed in army attire. "Yes that's me. Who's asking?" He flashes a badge for the military from what you could see before he put it away. "Come with me." He says. Hesitantly, you follow him to the unknown location.
'What's wrong with me? Following a stranger.' You groan, knowing it's too late to turn back. He walks you in front the library. "Do you know anything about what happened two nights ago? The property damage." He's apart of the army.
First thing you thought was you HAD to give him an answer. "Yeah, I was out that night and saw concrete on the ground. As soon as I heard something I ran home." You say flipping a braid behind your shoulder. 'Please believe it. Please.'
He nods pulling out a notebook and jotting your words down. "Did you see anything before you ran?" You look behind the man and see teams putting up lights (it was getting dark) as if they're trying to hunt it...him. "Ma'am?" You shake your head and focus back to him.
"Oh. Um. Sorry, long hours." You give a sympathetic smile. "No. It was pretty dark. I could barely even see the concrete on the ground." You stand there waiting in silence. "That'll be all. Thank you for your compliance." He then walks away.
You walk back to the library and at the desk, you let out a breath you didn't know you were holding. You practically jump over the desk and grab your phone. "Pick up. Pick up." You recited at the phone. "This is Bruce Banner. Leave a message after the tone."
You drop your phone in your lap the feeling of defeat accompanying your aura. You glance at the clock '8:34'. 'No wonder Wyatt's not here.' You get up and clock out. In the break room, you see two others chilling. Getting your belongings you split.
Pulling out your hand held mirror, you could see someone following you in the darkness. Increasing your pace, you ready your taser. Turning a corner, you get pinned against the wall. "Y/n, relax it's me." You turn off your taser and take a breath. "What the hell bruce!"
You put the device away. He grabs your hand and leads you to the subway. "They're in your apartment, we have to go." You sit next to him. "Who?" You whisper. "Military." He sighs, unable to meet your eyes. "Look at me. Why?" He complies looking into your pupils.
"They're looking for me. Since, I'm not around S.H.I.E.L.D. , right now is the perfect time to get me." He answers your question then slowly escapes into his mind. You slouch into the seat and look through the subway windows. You knew it was going to be a long night.
