As Harry entered the Slytherin common room that evening, his eyes widened in surprise. The room had transformed so that all the furniture had disappeared and there was some sort of arena in the middle of the room. There was Snape standing in the middle reading a piece of parchment, and what seemed like a 6th year boy next to him.

"Attention everyone!" Snape called out, when the room seemed to have all the Slytherins. "Today is the annual battle to determine who will be the King of Slytherin. Hope you all prepared." Other than Harry, only a few other first years seemed surprised.

"If you beat all of your opponents, you will battle the current King: William Cult." The 6th year stepped forward, surveying the group in front of him.

"Let us begin."

Snape called out two first years, and the two stepped into the ring, facing each other. Sicily and Harry decided to observe the players. After bowing to each other, the two started firing spells. But the battle only last a few seconds when the first one's wand went flying to the other. The second one stepped to the side while the first joined the crowd again. This happened multiple times. Some students seemed experienced, while it seemed the others were battling for the first time. Draco battled Pansy, winning the duel. Theo battled with Blaise, losing it. Daphne battled with Goyle, winning it. Finally, it was Harry's turn. He carefully took Sicily out of his robes and went over to Theo, handing her to him.

"Take care of her," he said, stepping into the arena.

Good luck, Sicily hissed. Harry just nodded his head. He was battling Tracy Davis.

Now, most people thought that Tracy had the advantage. Even though both were half-blood, Tracy had more experience since Harry grew up in the muggle world. Even though he defeated the Dark Lord and was the Boy-Who-Lived, they didn't think he would be strong enough. Few people knew this was not the case though. Voldemort was known to be one of the strongest wizards. Harry defeated him when he was 1 years old. So, he was powerful. But they still thought Tracy would win. Imagine their surprise that Tracy was down in less than 5 minutes. Unknown to most, Harry spent all of his free time away from his friends in his dorm, reading. Harry wanted to be prepared incase he had to fight or use them against the relatives, so he read a lot of Defense books. He even practiced some of them with the help of Sicily and Hedwig. He used a freezing charm first, but it was deflected. So he used a leg-lock jinx, which Tracy barely escaped. Harry then used a tickling charm, and while Tray was trying to avoid it, he send a freezing charm again. Finally, he used a disarming charm, and the duel was finished. While the audience was left speechless, Harry calmly went over to his roommate to gather his snake, and went to stand over next to Draco. When Sicily hissed loudly did they finally snap out of their stupor and continued to battle. After 10 minutes, all the first years were done battling and they moved onto the next stage.

The second-years started battling, and they were a bit more advanced. The ones that won battled the first years. Daphne, Millicent and a few others went back into the crowd. Most second years lost. They were once again surprised by Harry, who also moved onto the next level. This continued on until the last year. By them, only 12 people were left, 2 being Draco and Harry. Sicily was perched on a shelf, watching the show beneath her. The 12 battled each other, and were soon down to 6, the boys still in the game. There was another duel, and Harry moved onto the next level, but Draco lost. The people were again shook because they knew Draco Malfoy was a pureblood, which meant he probably got training from his mother and father.

The remaining were Harry, a fifth and a sixth-year. The older dueled against each other, the sixth-year winning. Then he dueled Harry. Most people were betting on who would come out on top. They knew they had underestimated Harry Potter, so there was a chance he might win. Sicily, sensing danger, hissed out to Draco, who immediately took notice of her and helped her down the shelf. She then proceeded to curl up at the nape of his neck. Good thing too, because halfway through the battle a stray spell hit the shelf, blowing it apart.

Unbeknown to others, Harry had been carefully observing the previous players. Good thing to, because with doing that he learned more spells and how to perform them. His competition won't know what hit him.

A bit over 10 minutes, the duel was over. The losing student hopped over to the rest, where Snape had set up a medical center to help those injured. After finishing, he walked back into the arena where the champion was waiting to battle the king.

"Everyone," he said. "This is the final battle. It will determine if the current king will be able to hold his position, or will it be taken by...Harry Potter."

He turned to the boys. "On the count of three, you will begin. 1...2...3."

The two bowed to each other and started firing spells. William Cult was a strong opponent, and Harry had a bit of difficulty trying to bring him down. But Harry was also a fast learner, and all of the time running away and dodging when his cousin and his friends played 'Harry Hunting' had given him sharp reflexes. Also with the new spells he had picked up, it was easier to attack and take him by surprise. Harry right away put up a defense shield, and it deflected most of the attack. But the ones that managed to crack through, Harry send counter spells to them, so that solved that problem. Then Harry started firing spells. William wasn't as quick to put up a shield, and a few spells did reach his person. But nevertheless, the two kept going on. After 30 minutes, William seemed to be tiring out. Harry took this opportunity to throw a freezing charm, and it worked. Then he knocked him out and calmly went over to pick up his wand. He then handed the wand over to Snape, who shakily went back into the ring and cleared his throat.

"Harry James Potter has won the duel. Therefore now I declare you the new King of Slytherin." Everyone was shocked silence. But then someone started clapping, then after a few seconds everyone joined in. They definitely didn't expect this to happen. It was the first time in a long time a first-year was declared the King of Slytherin.

Snape went over to William Cult and revived him, then handed him a potion. Luckily, William wasn't a sore loser, and simply bowed to Harry. Said boy had a gleam in his eyes that was not there in the last few days. It was a warning that told the snakes not to mess with Harry Potter.

Harry stepped out of the ring and watched as everything was transformed back to its original place. Then he looked around and took a seat near the fireplace where he could see everyone.

"Even though I won the duel, I don't want you guys to start treating me any different. If you have a problem, I would be happy to help. But I would like to establish rules.

Rule number 1: I don't care what your blood status is, or how much power you have; we are a family and families are supposed to look after each other. Do not harm your own and make sure they are safe.

Rule number 2: Slytherins are the most hated house, so we have to prove we are not that bad. So, it is important to make allies. Do not insult the muggleborns, my mother was one herself, if you forgot. It is unnecessary to start fights.

Rule number 3: Whatever happens here, stays here. I don't care if you have a feud between your families; fight all want in here, but act civil outside that portrait. Am I clear?"

The Slytherins nodded their head. These rules were fair and would benefit the house.

"Alright then, it is bedtime. Good night." With that, he got up and headed to his dorm, leaving the Slytherins to get up and go to their own rooms.
