So, prom is one of the things almost every girl waits for. They have to have the perfect dress, the perfect hair, perfect everything. Me? I could care less, but I do think it could be fun.
"So," said Toby as he walked beside me in the hallway. "Movie with me tonight?" We stopped at the doorway of my next class.
"Absolutely." I smiled up at him. "Meet me at eight? At my house and we can walk? It's like less than a mile away."
"Yeah, meet you then." He said as he walked towards his class. Oh, the upsides of living in a small town..
I walked into class and sat in my seat. Callie threw an icy cold look at me from across the room. Her boyfriend who sat right next to her kept peeking over at me. His name was Alex. I'll admit he is cute, but he is way to cocky. He is a total sports guy and just.. an ass.. I am not one to call people things like that but him, well there's just no other way to describe him.
After class ended, I walked out into the hall and was stopped by Alex.
"Hey, Caitlyn." He said, a bit shaky.
"Um.. hey, Alex." I don't know why you are talking to me. Do you want Callie to come after me?..
"So.. I was just wondering, do you want to go to prom with me?" He looked expectantly at me and waited for me to respond. I was dumbfounded. Completely shocked.
"I-I can't go with you." I said stupidly.
His eyes widened and his face filled with surprise. "Why not?"
"It's just, Callie you know? I should go, but I'll see you around, okay?" I walked away before he could respond. I could feel him staring as I walked off.

I got home and saw my moms truck. Well, it's Thursday she's back. Great. I walked inside and saw she had cleaned.
"Hey! How are you? How is school?" She asked happily coming over to give me a hug.
"It's fine. I'm going out with a friend tonight." I said with much less enthusiasm then I felt.
"Oh, but Cate, I gotta go back tomorrow and I thought we could do something together.." She looked disappointed and I felt bad but I was still mad at her.
"Sorry, mom but just like you don't have time for me, I don't have time for you." I walked upstairs to my room. I pulled my hair down so that it hung in loose curls down my back and put on a red headband with a bow on it. I texted Toby to see if he could meet me early. He texted back sure. I threw on one of my usual thigh length dresses and a belt(it's black) along with some red flats. I did my makeup really quick, grabbed my jacket and purse and basically ran out the door before my mom could stop me.
I saw Toby standing a block down waiting. I walked towards him and noticed just how hot he looked right now. His hair was perfectly messy, his green eyes glowing, and he smiled at me and reached for my hand.
"Hey, beautiful." He laughed.
"So cliche! Ugh." I teased. He pulled me into a hug.
"What's wrong?"
"Just, my mom. She came back for a day and I had a little spat with her. She expected me to be happy she is back but how can I be when she doesn't even care about me any other day." I groaned and covered my face with my hands. He pulled me into a bear hug and we both laughed.
"How about just the park instead?"
"That would be perfect right now." We walked beside each other laughing and talking all the way to the park. It was like ten blocks away. We got there and sat down on a bench underneath a tree. I leaned against Toby's shoulder and our hands entwined resting on my leg.
"Do you like it here better than where you used to live?" I asked.
"Well," he paused to think for a moment. "I was a little bored with our old house, I suppose. They always have to have the best, you know? So they saw the mansion here and thought 'wow how beautiful' and bought it. It's a nice change. Plus now I have you." He said sweetly and he leaned over to kiss my forehead.
I held his hand tighter in mine, reaching since his hand enveloped mine twice over. "I know how you feel though, with your parents being gone and all, my mom is gone sometimes months at a time."
"Well, lets not be all sad, okay? On a happier note I have to ask you something. " He sat me up and took my hands in his. "Will you, Caitlyn, go to prom with me? Please?" He winked at me and I smiled. "I can't imagine," he rolled his eyes "if I had to go alone. So please, save me a little humiliation?"
"Are you sure Callie doesn't want to go with you?" I teased.
He pretended to gag like I had the first time and we couldn't help but laugh again. "I cannot beg you enough to not subject me to that." He exaggerated playfully.
"So you're saying if I go with you.. I'll still be somewhat humiliating." I giggled and wrapped my arms around his neck so he could pull me into his warm embrace. "I'd love to, Toby." And with that I kissed him on his cheek and he kissed me on my forehead. We both stopped realizing we were both thinking about kissing each other. I closed my eyes anxiously waiting.. and then..
"Hey, Toby." Said Callie no more than six feet away. "Hey.. Caitlyn.." We quickly turned to look at her and Toby put our arms down, settling for holding my hand.
"What are you doing, here?" I asked politely.
She let out a very shaky laugh. "This is going to sound totally stupid, but I was just wondering.. Did Alex ask you to prom?"
I thought she was talking to Toby at first, but now I knew it was me. I thought about it in a matter of seconds. My, luckily, quick thinking brain. "No, Callie. He didn't." I lied
