Chapter 4: first time for everything
I sighed and watched as the sun rose in the sky, "so now you say it." I heard two voices behind me. I turned around and saw the Host Club, "it's just a song." I said and placed the guitar down. "Nothing special." I said and grabbed my bag. "Coincidentally," Kyoya said grabbing my arm, "we're holding a ball this weekend, please come." He said and I looked into his flared glasses, I couldn't tell if he was looking at me or not. "Why not?" I smiled and walked past Tamaki who just watched me.
I got to my class and everyone kept watching me. I sat down as the bell rung. Kyoya and Tamaki soon came in and Tamaki moved his desk back to sit with me, as did Kyoya. "Guys, what are you doing?" I whispered as I got the death glare from some but then that turned into empathy. I hate that, I'm not some sort of child that needs looking after, needing constant attention. "We're friends, why not sit together?" Tamaki asked and touched my hand.
Soon lunch rolled around and I took my lunch up to the music room but then I was grabbed and taken away by the twins. They placed me down in the Host Club and I saw the entirety of the hosts. "Oh," Haruhi said and smiled, "So glad you could join us." Tamaki said smiling and helping me off the ground. I remained silent, "are you guys just doing this because of this?" I asked and took off my morning band. "No, we just don't want you to be alone." Honey said and was about to jump on me but Mori stopped him. I put the black band on my upper arm again. I sat down next to Haruhi and opened my bento box. And saw a folded note, I looked at it for the longest time. "Aki? What this?" Kaoru asked, I picked it up and unfolded it,
My dearest daughter,
I will be giving this to our head housekeeper, she will give it to you when both your father and I are gone. I love you so much, never stop smiling and always keep playing. For me, please make friends who you can lean on after your father and I leave. Love, mom.
I set it down and ate some of the rice balls. Ms Sonoda knows what my comfort food is. "Aki?" Haruhi asked holding up the closed note, asking if she could read it, I shrugged and she opened it and the whole host club gathered around her. I continued to eat and I looked over to the hosts who were reduced to tears. "I better get going." I said and picked up the note and walked out. I tried to leave but I was covered in hugs. "Hey, can you join our club?" Tamaki asked, "I'm a girl, isn't there an unwritten law that girls can be apart of a boys host club?" I asked, "that's not true, Haru-Chan is here." Mori covered the third years mouth, I looked at Haruhi. "Well..." I said and shrugged, "not my business." I said, "now that you know you have to join!" Tamaki said, "I'll be right next door, anyway I don't think it would really work out." I said and tried to leave but Tamaki jumped on me and we both went crashing to the floor. I looked into his eyes and he into mine as our lips touched. He bolted up and I covered my mouth. I cleared my throat and dashed out of the room, down the hall and out to the rose garden. I hid there for the rest of the day, contemplating on weather or not that counted as my first kiss. It did but I didn't want it to... I wanted my first kiss to be with someone I deeply love and someone who loves me back. I sighed as it started to rain and I sat down on the pathway. I was probably lost... I curled up and watched as the roses danced in the pouring rain.
I heard running feet as I slightly drifted off to sleep. I got scared and tried to get up but my body was in shut down mode. I lay on the wet path as someone picked me up, "oh god, please don't be dead!" He cried, I willed myself to get up and I saw Tamaki leaning over me crying. "Dead? Me? Never." I said and yawned, "I got lost and tired." I said and tried to stand up but he clutched me to his chest as he cried, "boss! Is she alright?!" I heard one of the twins yell. I heard many gasps. "I'm not dead if anyone seems to care." I tried to say but it was hard to move, it was hard to speak, being muffled in Tamaki's coat. "Why did you run away?!" Tamaki yelled through his sobs. "Well, if you didn't notice I just had my first kiss and I was just generally flustered that I needed some time to think a breath." I said and he kept hugging me. "We thought we lost you." Haruhi said, "I won't die right after my parents, I have a goal to live till I'm at least thirty." I said and tried to get out of Tamaki's grasp but he wouldn't stop sobbing. I hugged him and rubbed his back, "don't worry," I whispered, "I won't be leaving you boys for a while." I said and they took me up to their club room.
My phone began to ring, I didn't want to pick it up. "H-Hello?" I asked, what was I worried about? I have no one else to loose... "miss Higanbana, we are truly sorry for your loss. But we need to go over the will." Said my lawyer, "I... right..." I said and closed my phone. "I have to go..." I said and grabbed my bag and began to walk out when they all followed me. "What happened now?" Honey asked nearly jumping on me, "nothing, go have fun." I said and called my driver only for him to already be here. I got into the car and the rest of the Host Club watched me as I drove away.
I sat in my lawyers office as she read the will off to me. "They gave you everything, the companies, the fortune, the land, it's all yours." She said as I signed my name, "so, so I finish high school then go straight into the business?" I said and her phone rung. "Miss, some boys are in the lobby asking for you." She said and I nodded, "I'll see you later then," I said and she nodded.
I walked out and saw the Host Club, I kept my head low until someone took my hand. I looked up and saw an old man, "what are you doing?! Get off of me!" I said and tried to pull away, "let her go!" Someone said and pulled me away. I looked up and saw Tamaki. I was being pushed into Tamaki's chest. The man looked at them and walked away. "Are you alright?" Tamaki whispered to me I nodded, "thank you, I better get home..." I said and he smiled down at me and held me close to him. "Do you think we could all stay over?" He asked, "I thought you had that thing tomorrow." I said and he shrugged, "doesn't mean we can't have a sleep over." Hikaru said and snaked his hands around my waist. "Fine. Can you, uh... let go?" I asked and we went down to my car.
I went up to my room and slipped into a pair leggings and a black dress that draped my near upper thigh. "Haruhi, if you want, you can borrow some of my clothes." I said and pulled her into my room. I smiled as I picked out a emerald green dress with a dark trim. I smiled as I began to brush her hair. "I always wanted to have a little sister so I could do this... help her with her first day of school outfit and all..." I smiled as I French braided her hair and added a small black ribbon to her hair. Haruhi looked at me with sad eyes. "But..." I smiled as I sighed, "won't happen." I said and she hugged me. "If you ever need me... call, alright? I'll always be here for you." She said and someone knocked on my door. I nodded as it opened. "Your housekeeper said it would be alright if we borrow these." Tamaki said walking in in a pair of my father's jeans and one of his favorite shirts. It was his favorite because it was mother's and my favorite shirt. "Yeah, it's not like they would have been used otherwise." I said and Tamaki began to gush about how cute Haruhi was.
We sat down at the dinner table and looked around, everyone watched me as I tried to eat but didn't feel up to it. "So, what's this ball all about?" I asked, they kept watching me, "well, we'll be trying to reunite a couple of people." Honey said, I noticed that he was wearing some of the clothes that my parents bought for my baby sister... the one who didn't make it. I watched him and thought of all the possibilities, I could have had a younger sister, I could have done everything, play dolls and dress up, protect her from boys... "-ki? Aki?" I looked up to the twins, "you alright?" Honey asked, I nodded and smiled, "yes, lost in thought I suppose." I said and we all went to the sitting room to have tea.
