What gender are you? A simple question. Why couldn’t she answer it? Why was it so hard for him to find the answer to a question that is supposed to come to them automatically?
Virgil stared down at the paper in front of him, the box with the question that caused him such stress glaring back at him.

Who am I, who am I, who am I, who am I?

Valley’s parents had been fine with the hair cut. They had believed it had just been a step forward in her path to express herself as her own person. That hadn’t been what it was for Spyder, it had been an attempt to answer that question for themself. It hadn’t done anything, if anything it had just made it worse for them, worse for him, worse for her.
Watching all his friends work themselves out felt like stabs to her chest, the chest that they despised for making it so difficult for them to allow herself to change how he wanted.

“There are only two genders. You can’t just be neither. It all depends on what… parts you are born with”

Only two genders, only two genders, only two genders, you are what you were born as, you can’t change.

“You’ve been brainwashed into thinking that. The politeness there once was everywhere is slowly dying, because of all the different labels people use now-a-days.”

He hadn’t known what to say when her father had told them that. Was politeness more important than people’s comfort. Would they be accepted for who she might be? Would he be stuck wondering this forever?

Why can’t she accept herself? Why can’t he accept himself? Who are they? Who are they? Who are they? Who are they? Who are they? Who are they? Who are they?

The silence was too loud. Spyder had to drown it out. Virgil didn’t want to think, he couldn’t. It’s just a faze. Valley was forcing herself to believe that they were more than just a girl. She had to be. He was just confused. They’re just an attention seeker.

Attention seeker, attention seeker, attention seeker, confused, confused, confused.

The cold wind bit at the girl’s face, leaving them red and frozen. Her family, her mum, her dad, their brother, his grandmother, walked ahead of him. He stood aside for an old woman walking down the pavement opposite them.
“Thank you Laddie.”
He was numb. She thought they were a boy. No she wasn’t. He’s a girl…

Right?

Boy? Girl? None? Boy? Girl? None? Boy? Girl? None? Boy? Girl? None?

The room was dark. The blackness swallowed the Virgil up, hiding her tears and numb expression from the boy who slept at the other side of the room. The darkness was suffocating, wrapping round Spyder’s chest like a boa constrictor, squeezing until he almost couldn’t breathe.
But she made no sound. This is their problem. No one else's. Valley doesn’t want to burden anyone with his pointless issues.

No one knows. And no one is there to hear the silent screams.

(A/N- Don't you just love it when an authors first published oneshot is ranting-)
(A/N X2- Ah yes, ima publish something trash. I wrote this a couple of months ago after a really trashy conversation so thats why its not a great quality. Still I hope to post something better later on :>)
