It has been nearly two weeks since I have seen my grandmother, but it's only been a week since Axel, and I spoke and came up the arrangement. Today, is one of those days, he told me he was going to go see her yesterday. As I got up kind of feeling better, knowing I could still have the opportunity to speak with my grandmother without Charlie, or Kyle knowing. As I entered the school parking lot, I saw Kyle standing in his usual spot, off to the right corner, with Brock standing in front of him, and Abigail hanging on him. On cue was the load roaring noise of Axel, and his friend's bikes coming into the lot.
Axel, taking off his helmet, he looked back at me. With his two fingers, the pointer, and the middle scratched his cheek bone. That was his signal to meet during second period. We always met behind the school's gym building. There were no windows on the back side of the building so no one knew about it. Understanding what he said, I looked at Kyle, who wasn't looking at me, and signaled back by scratching the top of my nose lightly.
Kyle finally looked over at me, his jaw clinched tight, and nodded for me to go into the building. First period ended, and now I was heading to meet, Axel. Glancing back to make sure no one followed, I rounded the corner, and once again running into his rock hard chest. "Ow." I said rubbing my now hurting nose.
"I'm surprised your nose isn't breaking from running into my chest so many times." He said with a smirk.
"Oh, shush." I said slightly smiling, I felt calm when I was with him. I stepped around him, and leaned against the wall. "How is she?"
"She's doing good, misses you though." I nodded. I missed her too, but things kind of had settled down with Kyle, and Charlie.
They both thought I had stopped seeing my grandmother, which I had, but I have someone who sees her for me. Kyle's beating have slimmed down, since I don't argue with him, or go against his wishes. Charlie hasn't said a word to me, and is always out drinking. As for eating you might as thought, I don't when I'm at school, and since Charlie comes home drunk she thinks she is the one eating the food.
"Carter, can I ask you a serious question?" I looked into his eyes. "You never told me why you can't see your grandma, other than Kain, can you tell me now?" He says his name wrong on purpose all the time.
"Kyle. And Charlie, doesn't allow me to see her."
"And Charlie is, your stepdad?" He asked.
"Stepmom. My grandmother is my mother's mom."
"So she is trying to erase anything to do with your mom from your life?"
"My mom wasn't ever in my life. Well like the first nine months she was." We didn't say anything for a split second, then it made sense in his head.
"Oh, okay, so what's with the psycho boyfriend, ummmm Carol?"
"Kyle." I corrected again.
He wasn't able to finish, what he was asking, before he faced me towards him, placing one of his silver rings on my middle finger, pulling my arms around his waist, and his right hand on my left cheek. I gasped, my heart was pounding rapidly. "Wh..."
"Shhhh." He whispered.
"Oh dude, sorry didn't mean to interrupt." Another guy's voice came from behind him, it was Jerad. I didn't even have to peek around Axel, to know. I always sat next to him, or Brock at lunch. Axel, slowly removed himself from my arms, slowly moved to the corner, and grabbed Jerad by the collar. I could only see Axel's back, so Jerad still couldn't see me.
"I'm sorry man I really didn't mean to." Jerad whined. He has always been a little intimidated by Axel, since Kyle, and him got into the fight last week. I haven't really in the mood to ask or wanting to ask who won, but since Jerad, Brock, and Kyle all have kept their distance from him, I pretty sure I know who won.
"What do you want?" Axel's voice deepened showing dominance.
"I'm ssorry, I was looking for Carter." He stuttered. I smiled and held in a laugh.
"Carter who?"
"Kyle's girlfriend. She's supposed to be in second period and she's not. So, he sent me, and some other guys to look for her." My eyes widened, that can't be good, he hasn't had someone tail me in a few days, what is he doing?
"I don't know who that is, so it's best you leave now." Axel said, letting him go. He stood there watching him go back into the school, before coming back over the me.
Finally letting go of the breath I was holding. "I think it's time for you to get back to class." He spoke. His voice was sincere. I grabbed my books and headed around the other way, so I didn't run into Jerad or any of Kyle's buds.
As I walked through the side door, the bell rang ending second. I went into my third period class, taking my normal seat. Class was pretty normal, it went by smoothly, and next was lunch.
Sitting at the table, across from Kyle, Abigail next to him, and Jerad on one side of me, and Brock on the other. "Where were you during second period?" Jerad asked.
I didn't understand why he was talking to me knowing I wasn't able to give him an answer, I tried to remain calm while looking down at my fingers in my lap. That instantly backfired on myself, noticing I was still wearing Axel's ring. SHIT!
Kyle didn't say anything about what Jerad had just asked me and began talking to Brock at the table. Looking up, and in the direction of Axel, and his friends. He was talking with a sandy blonde-haired guy. As I stared at him, remembering how close we had gotten trying to hide me from Jerad. I was taking in his physique. When he looked at me. He smiled, which made me smile, I quickly looked down, but stopped smiling when Jerad spoke again.
"Where did you get that ring?" He asked. He reached down, grabbing my wrist to get a better look at it. Glancing out of the corner of my eye at Axel, mistake, he was now concerned, knowing what was happening. Jerad had now noticed what it was. "It was you, wasn't it? The one with Him outside." He said louder, and now gotten the attention of Kyle.
"Jay what is it now?"
"Your girlfriend, she was making out with Axel behind the school." Double Shit!
"Who's Axel?" He asked. It seems odd, that for him to get into a huge fight with him, that he doesn't know who he is.
"Oh, he's the new guy sitting over there, blonde hair, god like physique." Abigail said. Of course, she knows who he is. Kyle looked at him, then back at Jerad. I rolled my eyes, at what Abigail said. Man, that girl is like a 24/7 convent store.
"Are you sure it was her?" He asked. Wait, why is he asking instead of beating me up?
"Yes, she was wearing the same ring." He held my wrist so he could see Axel's ring.
"Hold on, you are basing this on a ring, did you see her face?" He's still asking. What is this?
"Well, no." Thank God. Now drop it.
"Well, then there you go. Because I know that a guy who looks like that, is not going to make out with a girl who looks like her." I was thankful but also confused. I mean last week he accused me of sleeping with him, and now he doesn't believe I could pull a guy like him. He never asked questions when it came to me, it was always beat now, forget later. Kyle went back to talking with others.
"I know it was you, and I am going to prove it." Jerad whispered in my ear. And I knew he meant it. Glancing up in Axel's direction, he also had settled, and went back to talking with his buddies. We might be in the clear now, but we are so far from free.
