I don't own HTTYD or any of its characters (even if I'm a huge fan!)

Hiccup climbed into the cavern, calling to Toothless. His black dragon bound over, no longer the size of a cat, but the size of a large wolf, he'd gone through a growth spurt recently. "Hi Toothless." He scratched his friend behind his ears, "How are you?" Toothless purred, nuzzling his hand, then lowered himself to the ground. "Right, we have work to do." He smiled, climbing onto his friend's back. For his size and age, Toothless was incredibly strong. They ran up a tunnel into a cave that was higher up on the mountain. The dragon bound out onto the small lip of the cave and leapt off, beating his wings to gain altitude. "To Raven Point, bud!" The Night Fury roared, tucking his wings closer to his body and dove. The seven year olds landed neatly, Hiccup jumped off his friend's back and approached their target: a nest. Three out of the four eggs had been shattered by some kind of predator, the fourth was shaking slightly. Hiccup picked it up carefully and returned to his dragon's back, they barely made it back to the cavern before the egg exploded, sending eggshells everywhere. The baby Deadly Nadder lifted its head, waddling over to Hiccup and nuzzling his kneecap, he picked it up and booped its nose. He heard a voice, then a human figure appeared in the crevace. The young girl's eyes widened when she saw the seven year old boy cradling a baby dragon, a Night Fury curled protectively around his ankles. She must have been nine or ten. "So, you're not the only anti-dragon killer." She chuckled, "I thought I was one of the only ones. I'm Hazel." "H-Hiccup." "Son of Stoick. Didn't expect you to grow up liking dragons. With your dragon killing father, that is." "What are you doing here?" He finally asked. "I like to get away from the village, visit dragon nests around the forests. They mostly don't attack me. And you?" "I visit Toothless." He rubbed his dragon's head. "A Night Fury." Hazel nodded, sinking to her knees and holding out her hand. Toothless stalked closer, sniffing her fist. He licked it gently, then let her stroke his head, "How did you meet him?" "I snuck out and was playing in the woods. I thought he was a kitty." "They are pretty cat-like." The Nadder squawked and jumped out of Hiccup's arms, fluttering over to her. "Hi there, cutie. Aw, come here." She pulled the baby dragon into her lap, stroking its tiny, soft spikes with a fingertip. "You know, we're not alone. There are other kids like us." "Really?" "Yes. But we're too scared to speak up. Because our village has been-" "Killing dragons for seven generations." He finished, they both knew the speech by heart, "Why don't we all hang out together?" "Because it'd be weird for ten and eleven year olds to start hanging out with seven and five year olds. Since we mostly have to stay in our age groups." Hazel sighed. "So what if it was a secret?" "Let's think about it. Meet here tomorrow?" "I'm always here." "I'll gather up who I know likes dragons, and bring them along." "Okay. See you tomorrow."

A/N: I know it seems a little rushed, but I'm super excited about this fic, so apologies. Next chapter (when I get around to updating) will be the next day.
