I woke up to the sound of people laughing as they walked down the hall. With a groan, I sat up and looked over at the sundial on the desk. It was a little over halfway to noon, so around 8 am. Jean would most likely be awake and outside training at this time. I knew his schedule fairly well at this point, it hadn't changed much in the past few years. He would say the same thing about me, that is if I ever stuck to a schedule and didn't do things off of spite.
I crawled out of bed and changed into today's clothes. We were riding to Jean's mom's house today, so it had to be something comfortable enough to wear while riding a horse for a few hours. I went ahead and packed a bag of night materials and clothes for tomorrow while the thought was on my mind. Leaving my bad on the bed, I headed out to go find Jean to see how his daily training was going. As I suspected, he was training outside with a few other scouts who would be attending the mission at the end of this week. I sat down on the grass a few feet back and watched.
They were practicing with new guns, shooting targets that were on trees or hidden about in the area. Jean, who seemed to have taken on the role of a leader, was guiding them in how to get a better aim. After a while, it looked like he gave up and told them to ask Sasha for shooting help. He turned around and saw me sitting in the grass a while back and dismissed himself, running over to me with a smile.
"Hey, how long have you been watching?" He asked, offering his hand to me.
I took it and pulled myself up, "Just enough to see you give up on the poor guys."
"Ah... Yeah, they can't aim too well. Will most likely be placing lights and shit during the mission. But enough about that, want to get breakfast together?"
"Hm... I don't know, I was thinking of getting something to eat with the guy you gave up on," I teased.
Jean jokingly rolled his eyes and picked me up over his shoulder, like the way firemen do when someone appears stuck in a burning house. "Not if I can help it!" He started walking to the dining hall.
"Jean!" I laughed, wrapping my arms around his waist while upside down for support. The last thing I needed was to be dropped and get a concussion right before the mission. "Put me down!"
"Nah, I think I'll carry you like this all the way home."
"That's concussion central right there!"
"Ahhhh fine." He stopped walking once we were inside and carefully put me down, gently kissing me on the forehead before he started to walk again, leaving me to quickly catch up with him. "You ready to see my mom again today?"
"I'm excited for her cooking," I smiled as we walked into the dining hall. "How about you?"
"Me? I'm excited to see her, but also nervous at the same time," he said, grabbing two plates of breakfast and handing one to me before walking over to an open table.
"Why are you nervous?" I asked while I sat down, watching him plop down across from me.
He shrugged. "I guess it's just I haven't seen her in a while. And while she's my mom and all, I've changed a bit in the few months that passed. Both in appearance and in personality."
"You're still her Jeanbo tho."
He glanced up at me and sighed, laughing under his breath. "Not ready to hear that nickname for a full day."
I laughed and shrugged slightly. "Who knows, maybe it'll feel like no time has passed at all. She'll still make you help around the house, gossip to you while you're at it, then make you get the laundry from outside while I help her with the dishes after dinner."
