~Evangeline~
"Mark!"
I was literally, flipping out. Did I just, fucking kill him? I propped Mark up against the wall, and repetitively slapped him to try and revive him. No response. I, then tried to burn something to see if he'd smell the smoke. Still, nothing. Soon, I heard knocking on the door.
"Fuck." I exclaimed . "Mark, c'mon, man, please." Tears were streaming down my face. Suddenly, I heard a cough, followed by a gag. It was Mark!
"Mark." I sighed. His eyes fluttered open as I gave him a hug. He didn't hug back right away. I was unsure why.
"Evie." He croaked. "What happened?"
"You tell me." I replied. " You passed out when you inhaled the smoke. I thought you died."
I let go of him and helped him off the floor. He slowly turned to look at me, his green eyes wet with, what I assumed, was tears.
"Oh, god." Mark covered his mouth and rushed out of the kitchen. I lingered behind him, watching as he raced into his room. Why did he always go there?, I wondered. I knocked on his door cautiously.
"Mark?" I called. "What happened?"
"Leave me be, Evie." He snapped, choking on tears. "Just, leave me be."

The banging at the front door got louder and I had no choice but to open it.
"Ma'am," A man growled. "Did you not hear the instruction to evacuate this building?" I zoned out on his question and studied his attire, puzzled by the strange helmet that sat atop his head, along with the rain coat 'thing' and large black boots.
"Excuse me, but who the hell are you suppose to be?" I snapped. He narrowed his eyes at me.
"Look, missy, there's a fire in your apartment and we need you to leave." He proceeds to grab me by the arm and drag me out of the home. I wouldn't let that happen. I raised my hands and watched in delight as the strange man was lifted off the ground.
"Where the fuck do you see a flame?" I challenged him. The man didn't respond. My grin widened as I dragged the floating body of the man to the kitchen, where the blaze still burned.
"Oh, now I see." I cackled. "You must be a guy who can fix it then, am I right?" I brought the man closer to the flames, watching them touch his skin. He screamed in pain. I laughed.
"Put him down, Evie." A voice commanded. I turned around to see Mark standing in the doorway, eyes narrowed at me.
"Yeah, Evangeline." The strange man said. "Listen to Mark and put me down." I stared at him in shock. Mark's eyes widened.
"Fine, I shall do it myself." I watched in horror as the strange man's face began to twist into all sorts of unsettling features. His chunky arms stretched into longer, slender arms, and mot and the helmet melted into slick, black hair.
"Lucifer." I gasped. He smiled a psychotic grin and broke free from my grasp. He leaped to the floor.
"Might I say," He acknowledged. "That was a splendid performance. I was glad to be apart of it."
I backed away slowly. Mark pulled me closer to him. With a snap of Lucifer's fingers, the kitchen fire incinerated, and everything was back to normal, as if nothing happened.
"By the way, you're right, Evangeline." He laughed. " I am a guy who can fix flames."
"Lucifer." Mark snarled. "Get the fuck out."
"Why?" He wined, playfully. "Besides, I just got here." He flexed his wrist and sent Mark flying backwards. He slammed his head and body, hard, against the living room wall.
"No!" I shrieked, trying to get to him. A hand on my shoulder stopped me.
"Relax, Evangeline." Lucifer smiled. I narrowed my eyes and looked at the floor. "He's fine."
Lucifer lead me away from Mark. I didn't fight back this time. At that moment, I was still traumatized by the unsettling, transformation he did, from the strange man to himself, to even do anything.
"I have so many things planned for your celebration." Lucifer announced.
"What do you mean 'celebration'?" I asked. He ruffled my hair playfully.
"Your birthday, silly." He said.
"But-" I began. Lucifer reached into his coat pocket to pull something out. "Angels don't have birthdays."
He laughed. "But a special angel. like you, definitely needs one." He handed me a tan, envelope. "Give this to Mark when he wakes up, will you?"
I reluctantly, took the letter from him. "Wait a sec." I called to Lucifer. I was blinded by a white light, and then Lucifer was nowhere to be seen.
