All my life I've been told I wasn't good enough. I was never smart enough, never pretty enough, never good enough, for anyone. Despite what people told me I never gave up on my dream, I wanted to be a doctor. I knew I was smart, god, I was smarter than most adults. The funny thing is the people who said I weren't smart are, in fact, dumber than me. I'm 18 years old and am close to finally getting my doctorate and pursuing my dream, yes I know young, right? But I skipped most grades and I'd graduated high school by freshman year and went straight on to college then medical school. That's how I knew I was smart, I was always ahead of children in my class and I always quickly understood what we had to do. This made learning easier for me as I took in knowledge very well and I used that to my advantage.
I'm now nearing the end of my final term in medical school and hopefully in the next few weeks I'll have my doctorate and be able to start working in a hospital, as a doctor. I work two jobs at the moment, I'm a bartender at night and in the day I work as a nurse at the hospital. The bosses at the hospital know I'll be getting my doctorate soon and they said they'd try and secure me a job because they know that I know exactly what I'm doing. Working two jobs and studying is very hard but I can't really do much about it, I need the money to pay for my tuition and it sure as hell is not cheap. But I knew it would be worth it in the end, I wanted to help people, I always have.
At the moment I'm working a very long shift at the club, when I say very long I mean very long. It's a 7 hour shift. Yes, 7 whole hours in a bar. Fun, right? Note the sarcasm in my voice. The shift was as boring as ever and I was on my final hour when a big group came in, great. Let's hope they're not assholes, I can't deal with another big group of assholes. My names Mia by the way, Mia Elizabeth Johnson.
Bar-
"Hello, what can I get you all?" Mia
"Beer all around?" Steve
Everyone agrees
"So that'll be 14 beers and a pepsi." Steve
"Carling or corona?" Mia
"Carling." Steve
"Coming right up. Will you be starting a tab?" Mia
"Yes, take my card." Tony
Mia nods and takes the card starting the tab before making the drinks and placing them on the bar.
"Thanks." Sam
"No problem. Let me know if you need anything else." Mia
Mia walks to the other side of the bar to serve someone else before starting to revise.
"Mia!" Boss
"Yeah?" Mia
"What did I tell you about studying on the job?!" Boss
"Nobody wants anything I don't see the problem?" Mia
"You've already had your break, you should be working." Boss
"But nobody wants anything and everything's done." Mia
"Don't argue with me or you'll be out of a job." Boss
"Sorry, boss." Mia
Mia closes her book and starts wiping the sides
"Good. Don't let me catch you reading that book again." Boss
The boss walks off and Mia rolls her eyes
"He doesn't seem very friendly." Steve
"Nah, but he pays me so I have to deal with it." Mia
"Well you better be getting a good pay." Steve
Mia chuckles
"Eh, it's alright." Mia
