Running away from the everlasting darkness, threatening to consume, the young man just managing to outpace the incoming darkness. Nipping and rasping at his heels. He manages to dart through a gap in the leaves, wincing at the cold air and branches clawing at his face.
"I never should have done this. I never thought this would actually happen. Is this stranger really worth it?" mentally scolding himself.
He had been forewarned of this particular night by a mysterious character brushing past him, in a rather hurried fashion; bundled with many packages, on which sat atop many scrolls of varying sizes, some filled, some blank. Mumbling a quick apology to the stranger as he rushed past, Brice could not help but notice a sweet scent of roses wafting through the air.
"Oh he will be perfect."
Walking back, dragging his feet in exhaustion, stumbling a couple of times due to the unevenness of the cobblestone path. He noticed something glinting out of the corner of his eye, something he recognised from the stranger he passed by earlier. An elaborate scroll dropped from a brisk stroll. Carefully picking it up, a voice, clear in his mind, subtle and divine spoke,
"Dashing throughout the forest,
Quick as can be,
A light guiding thee,
You will be grateful for this rest."
"I, the voice in your mind,
Am the one you will find,
I, your one of a kind,
Please bring the scroll left behind."
"But be weary of the Grue,
He lusts to take you this night wandering through,
He laments those who step forth in the forest, tried and true,
Those who have wandered astray, if they lived, no one knew."
"A gift of swiftness, I give to you,
Path clear, you know what to do,
You shall not fail,
Trust yourself and you shall prevail."
Brushing off the latter, Brice began walking home. Nearing the forest entrance, the curiosity that had laid dormant began to claw and eat away at him. At the same time, gaining a sudden urge to run fast. Staring at the entrance, barely noticeable was a tiny light in a small clearing.
