Misa Anne Magisk grinned as she skipped down the road with her best friend Sheryl Ann Carpenter. It was 4 weeks away from her 13th birthday and she had dance practice before and after school. So far, her day was going great!
"i can't wait for dance practise today Mis! We're starting rehearsals for our second performance at the local dance competition in a few weeks eee! We're going to be representing Mystic Falls Secondary School at a dance competition! We haven't done that in so long! And Miss Salsa said we're starting a new dance today to a song from Chicken Girls! EEE! i love that show so much! i really hope we're going to learn the dance from either 'Wave' by Brooke Butler or the song they dance to at the Expo in Season 1, i love that dance! or maybe the dance to 'Birds of a feather' by Jules LeBlanc! i love that song too! which one do you want to dance to the most, Misa? 'Wave', the Dance Expo song, or 'Birds of a feather'?"
"woah, Sher, calm down. there are like a million songs from Chicken Girls, i doubt we'll be doing any ones from season one. Maybe 'Fly So High' though, since that's sung by Harmony and her friends in season 7?"
"maybe. i do love that song too, but i also love 'Wave' so much, and 'Birds of a feather'. and that Dance Expo song has been stuck in my head for weeks. Na Na Na Na Na Na, i'm a monster"
"Na Na Na Na Na Na, i'm a monster" Misa sang back. She laughed softly. "yeah, i wish the internet would tell me what that song is called. Hey, you know what other song would be cool, 'Play Nice'."
"What's that? i don't think i've heard it."
"seriously. 'Play Nice', it's the theme tune for Crown Lake, the series we started watching last week, and it's by Jules LeBlanc."
"wait, 'Play Nice' is by Jules LeBlanc? omg i had no idea!" Sheryl pulled out her phone and started playing the song. Misa laughed again and started to sing along.
"Hush, my loves, now don't you lie
I might look sweet, but I don't play nice"
Sheryl joined in with me softly. Together their voices sounded beautiful, and the two of them began to move in rhythm to the beat, closing their eyes and dancing.
She sang quietly, waving her arms in the air and spinning slowly.
They realised there was a traffic jam right when they got to the school and stopped singing. They read the giant sign saying 'Mystic Falls Secondary Dance Team rehearsals this way' and then looked at the traffic jam.
"Miss Salsa would want us to. She always says, dance at every opportunity, no matter what the cost." Sheryl said happily. They looked at each other and Misa stood in silence, thinking.
We were so close.
She sighed and looked at Sheryl, who was already opening her bag.
"Oh no-"
She was cut off by the blonde grabbing her wrist and pulling her into the centre of the road. The two of them stared at each other for a second before taking up positions in between a few cars. Misa sighed as Sheryl placed her phone and portable speaker on the pavement and played the song from the beginning.
The two of them began to dance, moving in sync to the beat of the music.
When the song was over, everyone clapped and the traffic lights turned green, so the two girls ran across the road, laughing to themselves. Misa grinned and slid along the pavement laughing.
"You'd think that was new, but it's actually just a typical Tuesday for the Ann duo."
They laughed again and walked straight into a lady standing in front of them. She had long brown hair that was tied back in a bun, and she was wearing a black leather dress with a matching handbag. She had black hoop earrings, and was holding a turquoise clipboard. She was wearing red chunky high heeled boots and a silver watch. She also had a grey headband pulling back a few stray hairs. Misa and Sheryl stared at her in awe. The lady smiled at then
"Hello, that was some fine dancing. What are your names? Did you come up with that routine yourselves?"
The girls grinned proudly and Sheryl said happily,
"Hi lady, my names Sheryl Ann and this is Misa Anne, those are our first and middle names but we put them together since we both have the same middle name. Yes, basically. We saw that people were bored and angry, so we went in between the cars and just improvised."
"You mean you thought of that dance on the spot?!" The lady asked in shock. Misa nodded shyly.
"Yes, we create a lot of dances together. Our dance teacher says we're two of the best members of the team. Although I'm not so sure."
"That's incredible. I could tell you are talented dancers, but I never would have guessed you were improvising such a well-choreographed dance." The lady took a deep breath and smiled warmly at them before holding out her hand.
"Let me introduce myself, my name is Annette Duster. I'm the-"
"WAIT!" Misa interrupted in shock. "The Annette Duster. As in, the head of the Royal London Dance Academy and the Royal London Music Academy that's about 1 hour 18 minutes exactly away from mine and Sher's houses??!!"
Miss Duster raised her eyebrows and smiled.
"I see you're a fan, then."
"Of course we are! It's our dream school! We have the logo T-shirts, we have the posters, the uniform, we know everything about it, we watch all the videos and reviews online-"
"Wow so you're a really big fan" Ms Duster interrupted, smiling. "And you already have the uniform?"
"Yep, me and Mise save up and buy a new size up every new year. It's a tradition, and then we put it on at home and dance and sing and act and play instruments."
"Wow, that's quite impressive girls!" Ms Duster said happily.
"Thanks Ms Duster!" the girls replied in unison. Ms Duster smiled.
"So, i was just thinking, i really liked your performance. What if i invited you to the open auditions this afternoon for the Academy?"
Misa and Sheryl stared at her in shock.
"WHAT??"
"OMG ARE YOU SERIOUS?!"
"Yes, there's a new scholarship duet programme. If you two come a long and perform a dance and song together, then you'll be put forward for a free scholarship. Your parents won't have to pay anything your first year at the Academy, and you'll be in all classes together and work as a duet, However, you'll also be required to do a few solo performances."
The girls looked at each other and both nodded.
"Umm, okay!" Sheryl replied excitedly. Misa grinned and did a small dance in the street. She looked at her watch and sighed.
"Sher, we're 10 minutes late for dance practise. We need to go quickly, Miss Salsa asked us to perform in front of the class. Cmon."
"Alright. Ms Duster, what time is the audition?"
"2pm. So that should be during Fifth period. I'll send notes to the school explaining and request for you to leave class and come over to the Academy. There will be a car to pick you up."
"Ok. Thank you Ms Duster." The girls said in unison. Ms Duster smiled again and looked down at her clipboard.
"I'll just add you to the list. Oh, that reminds me, what are your full names? Surnames included, although I do love a good sister-like friendship name change."
"Yeah, Sheryl basically is my sister lol. Okay, My full name is Misa Anne Magisk, spelt M-i-s-a A-n-n-e M-a-g-i-s-k."
"Wow, Magisk, that's quite an unusual name. Is it Spanish?"
"Swedish I think. I don't know. It means magic, but I'm pretty sure more than a few languages have the same word for magic."
"Wow, fascinating. I'll have to do some research on that later. Sheryl, what about you?"
"Um, my full name is Sheryl Ann Carpenter, spelt S-h-e-r-y-l A-n-n C-a-r-p-e-n-t-e-r."
Misa looked at her watch again and grabbed Sheryl's wrist, dragging her down the road towards the school.
"I'm sorry Ms Duster but we've got to go now, bye! See you later!"
Ms Duster laughed softly to herself.
"Something tells me those two are going to have quite a bit of trouble in their lives. But they're going to make fine additions to the Academy."
