Misa and Sheryl stared in awe as they walked through the academy halls. There were people rushing around everywhere, staff trying to organise everyone, students trying to calm the performers down, and auditioners rushing about nervously. It was chaos.
"This is heaven!" Sheryl said happily. Misa stared at her in surprise, having just been knocked down by a teacher and auditioner.
"Really?!"
"Yes!" Sheryl nodded over and over again until Ms Duster had to reach out and stop her. "Mis, this is what we've dreamed of since we were 4 years old. And we're so close to achieving it!"
"I'm glad to hear that Sheryl," Ms Duster said in a boss-type voice. "Now, the auditioners, aka you two, need to go over to the left. You see that room there without a door, just a curtain?"
Misa and Sheryl nodded eagerly. Ms Duster smiled, this was the best part of her job.
"Well, that's the entrance to the costume room. Go in there and see Mrs Container, the costume teacher, and she'll take your sizes and help you choose your outfits. Now, I must go to the audition room, they've held them back a bit so that I could collect you two. Now go, and be sure to select an outfit that feels like you. Don't let Mrs Container tell you what to wear. Oh, and be careful if you run into Mrs Antoinette, once she gives you a nickname she sticks to it, no matter how much you hate it. Anyway, I must go! Have fun girls, goodbye!"
"Goodbye Ms Duster!" The girls said in unison. They headed over to the purple curtain and Sheryl grabbed Misa's arm excitedly.
"Did you hear that Mis?! They held back the auditions so that Ms Duster could collect us! We're obviously going to get in! Now, what song should we perform? Chicken girls? Crown Lake? High School Musical? Descendants? Riverdale? What should we dance to?!"
"Sheryl!" Misa yelled. She smiled reassuringly. "We're going to do okay. Also, I feel like Chicken Girls is the way to go since the shows based on dancers, at least, until they all quit and do other stuff."
Sheryl nodded.
"You're right. So, should we create our own dance for 'Wave'? Or should we go with 'Broken'? Or 'Dancing on the ceiling' maybe? Or 'Girl Time'? Or 'Birds of a feather'?! Or maybe-"
"SHER!" Misa interrupted. Sheryl stopped panicking (and walking) and stared at her. There was a loud thud as someone walked into her. Sheryl ignored them and turned back to Misa.
"Yea?"
"We are going to do great! So stop panicking! Let's see.."
"Ah hello!" A brightly-coloured lady jumped out from behind an old prop shelf. She had long frizzy dark brown hair that was loose on her shoulders, and was wearing a bright red and yellow dress with pink sandals. Misa and Sheryl jumped, and the lady grinned.
"Ah, sorry for scaring yoi! I'm Mrs Antoinette! The drama teacher here at the London Academy of Dramatic Arts! Mrs Container had to pop out for a bit since she was starting to get claustrophobic with all the kids panicking and running about, so I'm going to be helping instead."
"Okay!" Misa said happily, looking around. She noticed a selection of red hoodies and grey T-Shirts and walked towards them.
"SHERYL! Look! If we dance to 'Wave' then these are similar to the Attaway Dance Team Uniform so this would be perfect. We can tie the t-shirts in knots at the front to make them crop tops like in the scene, and the hoodies are the same shade of red. Plus, we already have the Chicken Girls Bracelets we made when we were 8 and first watched Chicken Girls. So, what do you say Sher?"
Sheryl smiled and nodded.
"I say, let's do this Rhyme!"
Misa grinned at the use of their old nicknames.
"Right back at ya Ellie/Quinn. Now, all we need is to style our hair and two pairs of, well...right, Rhyme wears a pair of light blue denim jeans. And Quinn wears a pair of black leggings with white stripes down the side."
"Like these?" Mrs Antoinette asked, lifting up a pair exactly like Misa described. Misa nodded excitedly.
"Yes! That's perfect! Thank you Mrs Antoinette!"
Mrs Antoinette smiled kindly.
"Please, call me Antonia. We're probably going to be seeing a lot of each other pretty soon anyway so we might as well be on a nickname basis. So what are your names?"
"I'm Misa, Mis for short. And this is Sheryl, Sher for short."
"Okay..." Antonia looked thoughtful for a minutes before smiling. "You know, I'm quite popular for coming up with new nicknames for people so they have a different name when they start at a new place."
"Really? Cool! Any ideas for me and Sher?" Misa asked, dreading the answer.
It's probably going to be something awful like Misa-Star or something like that. Ugh.
She could tell that Sheryl was thinking the same by the look on her face. It was a if-this-is-terrible-I'm-going-to-hunt-you-down-and-kill-you kind of look.
"Well, I think that Mia would be a good nickname for you. And I think that Ryl would be a good nickname for Sheryl over there."
"That's...actually not a terrible idea." Sheryl said in surprise. Misa nodded, then looked at the time.
"We'll think about it, but right now we need to go and get ready! We're audition number 24, and I just saw 20 go in. C'mon Sher!"
The two ran into the changing rooms and quickly got changed. When they came out, 22 was just going in. They quickly grabbed a hairbrush and started styling their hair to match the characters. Then Sheryl downloaded the song onto her phone. They ran to the entrance just as 23 was coming out.
"Good luck girls! I believe in you both! I just know you're going to get in!"
Sheryl and Misa looked at each other, took a deep breath, and walked into the biggest moment of their lives.
