---Current Time---

"What are you doing?" Matt's voice cracked slightly as he watched me pack my belongings into a small backpack.

"What does it look like i'm doing? I'm heading back," I angrily threw my shirt into a small pouch and zipped the bag shut. Matt stood by my door, leaning against the wall for support as he crossed his arms in disapproval,

"Let me get this straight, you wanna head back to your team, how exactly?" His words were spiteful, directed at me in anger yet he kept his voice calm.

"What do you mean how? I'll take the pod," I turned to look at him, my eyes focusing on his. He raised his eyebrows and responded in a harsh tone,

"The-the pod? Oh yeah, okay, so what are you going to do? Take a small ship and fly around in space and hope, just HOPE that you find Voltron before you run out of fuel. Yeah, that sounds like a fun idea, why don't you say hi to Zarkon while you're on your little runaway trip. Heck, why don't you dance on the moon before your little plan kills you from the lack of oxygen?!" He walked abruptly towards me and began unzipping my bag, taking out the first few clothes he saw and throwing them onto the bed.

"At least I'm trying to get back Matt! Its been two years! What am I supposed to do? Sit around like you and wait for your sister to find your decoy grave? By the time she comes looking for you, you'll already be dead laying inside!" I stopped him from looting my bag and pushed it over to the side, dropping the bag onto the floor with a loud thump. I sat on my bed with my arms crossed, looking away from Matt in silence. I could feel the heat rising up to my cheeks and burning through my intestines.

"(Y/N)..." Matt sat next to me and whispered my name softly, knowing well that tears of pain were bursting inside of me. I stared at the wall ahead of me, purposely avoiding his gaze as he touched my arm lightly,
"(Y/N), why are you doing this? You know we can't go back, not yet," I still avoided his gaze, my arm immobile to his touch as his hand tightened my arm's grip in sympathy, "I miss them too, my mother, my sister and my father, everyday and every night. I just don't want to lose someone else too," I slowly turned my head in defeat, seeing my best friend in tears as me. I lifted my arms steadily, embracing him in a strong hug as a soft sob escaped through me.

"I miss them,"

"I know, I do too,"

A choked silence took over me as I tried to regain my composure, but Matt still held on tightly. Knowing that I needed this moment to heal inside even if it lasted forever. His embrace held so tight that I couldn't move, letting my head rest onto his chest as my wet tears damped my cheeks.

After a long moment between the two of us Matt finally let his grip loosen on me, giving me room to back away yet I stayed in his embrace, listening to the silence that wailed around us.

"Dancing on the moon, huh?" I snickered lightly,

"What? I thought it could be on our bucket list," he chuckled softly, he used his free hand to wipe his tears away, bringing a tight embrace with one arm around my waist as I sat with him quietly.

"Matt! I caught a signal!" I removed my giant headphones from my ears, feeling blood rushing through them once again as Matt ran into the main room. He had a towel draped over his shoulders as his damp hair swayed over his eyes.
