Alternate title: How Lams Became A Thing
(Y'all I took a big as hell risk downloading that pic to my computer that's checked by my homophobic family just so that I could upload it to wattpad so you better like this fookin chapter)(Wattpad also thought it was too gay so I had to fight for that pic above)(It also took me a long time to edit so hahahaha)
Okay so in this chapter, I'm hoping to prove Alexander Hamilton was bisexual for the man himself, John Laurens. I will be using, of course, Hamilton:An American Musical, as well as other sources.
So, first, we'll start with my own commentary.
If you've been in the Hamilton fandom at all, you probably know that Laurens and Hamilton had a...little friendlier than usual relationship. And if you've read any fanfiction at all, you probably have heard of the more than famous "Cold in my proffessions" letter. Also called the "April 1779" letter that is currently refered in fics as "THE letter."
But what is the big deal with this so-called letter? Well, let's go for a history lesson now. I will be dissecting the letter phrase by phrase even word by word if it's needed.
(I will be using a shortened version of the letter, however, at the end of this chapter there will be a part with all the links used in this chapter where you can find the shortened and the complete letter)
[April, 1779]Cold in my professions– warm in my friendships –
Basically saying, I am very professional but also very emotional
I wish, my Dear Laurens, it were in my power, by actions rather than words, to convince you that I love you.
*burst laughing* HAHAHAHAHAHA NO HOMO THO RIGHT?!?!
I shall only tell you that 'till you bade us Adieu, I hardly knew the value you had taught my heart to set upon you.
So he's basically saying that he never realized how much he cared about John
Indeed, my friend, it was not well done. You know the opinion I entertain of mankind, and how much it is my desire to preserve myself free from particular attachments, and to keep my happiness independent of the caprice of others. You should not have taken advantage of my sensibility, to steal into my affections without my consent.
So Hamilton is saying that he doesn't like getting close to people and that Laurens getting close to him made him mad. BUT...
But as you have done it, and as we are generally indulgent to those we love, I shall not scruple to pardon the fraud you have committed, on one condition; that for my sake, if not for your own, you will always continue to merit the partiality, which you have so artfully instilled into me. . . .
Hamilton loves him too much to stay mad at him so he will forgive John only if our bird bean continues to love him a whole lot
And Now my Dear as we are upon the subject of wife, I empower and command you to get me one in Carolina.
No homo damage control
Such a wife as I want will, I know, be difficult to be found, but if you succeed, it will be the stronger proof of your zeal and dexterity. . . .
No homo damage control x2. He doesn't actually expect Laurens to find him the perfect wife but he had to cover up his bi-ness
If you should not readily meet with a lady that you think answers my description you can only advertise in the public papers and doubtless you will hear of many . . . who will be glad to become candidates for such a prize as I am.
