The defender

I opened my eyes to Alex's face in mine, his dark hair tickling my forehead, and both of his index fingers poked in my cheeks.
"Wakey wakey" Alex said in excitement.
It had been a few hours since I had drifted off to my own world, and in that time only 3/4 vehicles had passed by us, with no intent to help us out. Though it had seemed that Alex had found us a ride as he dragged me up from the ground, my focus now on the dark green 90's defender thrumming it's engine in-front of us.
"Hello!"
A man in his late thirties greeted me with a wrinkled smile
"I'm Andrew" the man said, waiting for a response.
His eyes, though old and experienced, held kindness within them, as if he only had the best intentions.
"Emily" I said back whilst I leaned over the wall to shake his hand.
"Hop in" he said his eyes bouncing with the same excitement Alex had in his. I lunged myself up and onto the vehicle, the back had no seatbelts, only two rows of cushioning which had sat at opposite sides of the car. Alex sat next to the man and delved onwards into a conversation they had started before he woke me up whilst the man started moving the defender. My eyes widened at how adventurous it had felt sitting here, driving away from the Forrest and onto our next embark. A childish smile curved on my lips as the back door slammed open and let the summer air swing at me full force. Andrew interrupted my thoughts
"There's a latch on the outside if you want to keep the door open... if you dare to"
My smile stretched further at the sound of a daring task.
"OfCourse" I said as I shuffled to the back door. I kept my hands sturdy on the metal pole and looked back to where Alex was sitting, no worry had trailed over his face, just excitement and challenge as he watched me go for the door. I peered my eyes out, looking down at how fast the road was moving, one wrong move and I'd be dead
Challenge accepted.
I then turned my head to the side where the latch was. I needed to push myself into the door, grab the latch and then use the door to get back to safety, I took my chances and went for it, slamming my body into the cold steel door and whirling into the other side -the outside. I'd managed to latch the door onto the hook, using my upper body to lift the door up a little bit and force The latch into place, before Turning around to sneak a peak of the view. The wind played with my hair and tugged at my clothes as I held on the door for safety. I felt like I was flying, soaring alongside the defender, instead of inside. I screamed out in excitement as my smile stretched and ached at my face, the feeling was so wild, so intense, so free.
I felt like I could breathe properly for the first time in my life. It was so exhilarating.
I swung back into the vehicle, my eyes met with Alex's as we shared the same look of excitement, I wanted to kiss him right on the spot, show him what I was feeling, as happiness pulsed through my veins.
