She hums quietly as she rinses the last plate and stores it back in the dryer.
"Camilla, sweetie," her mom glances up as she flicks through a magazine, crossing one ankle elegantly with the other. "So how was yesterday - you never said?"A small smile etches its way onto her face, "Oh, you know... Walked around a bit, chatted with a few of the locals."
She kept her hands busy, fussing around in the kitchen with her back turned to her mom.
"Sounds interesting... did you meet anyone in particular?"Cam casts her thoughts back to the previous night with a soft smile and her expression lightens almost immediately.
~Flashback~
I giggled as he dragged me down to the shore. "Stooop, slow dowwn," I whine, my feet stumbling in the darkness.
"Aww, is poor little Cammie getting tired?" he teases and I flick his arm.
"Ow! That actually hurt!"
My eyebrows raise and I say hopefully, "Really?"
He smirks, rubbing his arrm, "No. I just wanted to make you feel better."
"Meanie."
He flicks my arm back and I smile at his childness.
"Pain," he muses.
"Wide load."Rolling my eyes, I scoff and he tugs on my hand again as he darts forward towards the beckoning sea.
*
"Hey!" I giggle, as he flicks up a handful of seawater in my direction. "Stop, you big baby!" I laugh loudly.
"Oho! So now I'm the baby?!" he grins.
"I didn't do anything!"
He laughs, incredulous, "You started this war!"
"Did not!"
"Did to."I huff. "I wouldn't have chucked any water if I hadn't been pushed in first, unlike somebody here."
"Not quite sure who you mean. You should've seen your face - it was priceless!" The laughter bubbles up in his chest and I glare at him half-jokingly.I sulk and cross my arms.
"Awww Cammie don't be mad," he pleads, his laughter quietening and I can barely keep my smile contained so I look away. That was a mistake.
I shriek as he comes charging through the water towards me and instantly sprint in the other direction. He chases me down half the beach until his arm slips around my waist and we collapse in a pile of heaving muscles.
"You- idiot-" I pant. "Get- your stinking fat ass- off- of me - I can't breathe."
He laughs breathlessly and rolls off and onto his side.We lay panting on the cool sand, watching together as the stars shine brightly above, sharing the moment in perfect harmony and quiet.
Even in my tired state, I can't help the smile that stretches across my face.
~Flashback end~
Cam shakes her head slightly, leaving the haze to notice her pause had lasted a few moments too long.
Her smile widens. "Y-Yeah, I guess I did," she answers shortly. "Meet someone, that is," she clarifies.
Her mom arches an eyebrow playfully and glances at her turned form briefly. She picks up her magazine and feigns ignorance.
"So you'll be meeting your friend again today?"
The girl mulls it over for a second, "Sure, I can arrange to meet him again."
"Ah! So it's a boy, is it?"Cam stills for a moment and spins around to face her mom's already waiting gaze, a slight blush tinting her cheeks.
"Mo-om!" she groaned and the older woman chuckled lightly.
"Yeah, ok, ok, don't worry your secret is safe with me."Cam buried her face in her hands and huffed, "I'll go get changed then."
Her mom just laughed merrily, watching her scurry out in the direction of her bedroom.~Time skip~
3.47pm
Cam glanced at her watch again and leaned against the fateful cobbled wall overlooking the pristine beach.
Not a single cloud clustered the great expanse above, and gentle sunlight enveloped everything below it in a loving embrace. Few palms stirred, and the audible rolling of waves was the only melody to take centre stage, pirouetting through the early afternoon.
Minutes passed in her bliss as she closed her hazel eyes and angled her face to the sunlight.
"You do that a lot."
"How observant of you," she murmured, eyes still closed.
"I'd say that's sort of a given."
"Oh yeah? How so, Lukie-boy?"
He laughed with genuine mirth, "Well with such a beauty before me, I hardly think I'd be able to keep my eyes off." The smile was evident in his silky voice; her cheeks heated faintly at the compliment and she hummed."Y'know, someone might think you're not from a very sunny state." He pointed out.
"Is that someone's way of politely saying I'm pale?" Her thoughts rushed to the sea and the beach. "Like sand or something."He deliberated for a moment. "No... I don't think so." He paused, before seemingly reaching a satisfying conclusion. "You're pale as a sheet. Even the sand looks way darker by comparison."
A sigh escaped her lips, "I get sun! And I do tan, I just haven't been out on the beach that much yet."
He chuckled, "Maybe if someone wasn't so tanned the difference wouldn't be so comical.""Hey!" She huffed, opening her eyes to give him a death glare.
"I mean, just look at you." Lucas sided up his arm next to hers and she rolled her eyes, smacking his clearly tan, olive skin from hers.
"I'm glad looks can't kill." He mused.
She frowned, "Well this one just might."
He arched an eyebrow but remained quiet.Smart choice.
"Not my fault someone looks like a burnt onion." She quipped back.
"Are you implying I'd make you cry?"
She laughed lightly, "I'm sure you've broken your fair share of hearts."
He stilled, suddenly quiet. His shift in demeanour caused Cam to glance at him sideways, taking her gaze from the sea to see his eyes visibly darken like a storm, the azure blue orbs almost black. "You okay there?"
He rubbed a hand across his chiseled jaw and a careful smile returned to his lips, and the moment was gone."Of course." He glanced away and when he met her hazel eyes again, narrowed with an unreadable expression, his were suddenly bright with sparkles.
"Heyyy, Cammie. What d'you think of ice cream?"
A grin swept across her lips almost instantly, "Show me the best you've got!"𝙛𝙚𝙚𝙡𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙥𝙧𝙚𝙩𝙩𝙮 𝙗𝙪𝙧𝙣𝙚𝙙 𝙤𝙪𝙩 😓 𝙝𝙖𝙫𝙚 𝙨𝙤 𝙢𝙪𝙘𝙝 𝙚𝙭𝙩𝙚𝙣𝙨𝙞𝙫𝙚 𝙬𝙤𝙧𝙠 𝙚𝙭𝙥𝙚𝙧𝙞𝙚𝙣𝙘𝙚 𝙩𝙤 𝙙𝙤 𝙖𝙩𝙢
