"Cindy! Look!"
The small, blonde girl lifted her head warily from her scrutinizing search and turned her nose in the air.
"If this is another trick..."
Cam laughed. "No, it's not this time."

"..."
"I promise!"
She huffed, "Fine, okay."

As she ambled across the large boulders and made her way to the rock pools with agility, Cam pointed to the crystal waters.

"Here."

Cindy peered fastidiously into the shallow stillness, eyes squinting and short nose crinkling in concentration.

A sudden dart of motion sent ripples across the surface, and she squealed with delight.
"Cammie, Cammie!"
The older girl laughed and took hold of her hand, "I know, I told you I found the fish."

The pair got to their feet, continuing the search for bright seashells among the corals, glistening in the sun with hundreds of colours.
"Awww, but they're so small!"
"Just like you," Cam teased, pulling on her hand.
"I'm tallest in my class," she huffed back.
"I thought Joseph was?.."

"..."
Cam chuckled, "Ok."
"He doesn't count, he's two and a half months older than me," she whined.

Humming in response, the brunette shielded her eyes from the sun and brushed the small beads of sweat from her upper lip.
"It's almost noon. The hottest time of day," she mumbled, mostly to herself.

"Can we go inside before that? Please?"
"Huh?-Oh, of course. Hey, I have an even better idea!"
The small girl looked up hopefully.
"I know a cool ice cream place. How about it?"
An excited squeal escaped her lips and her smile widened.
"I'll take that as a 'yes', then," Cam giggled.

The doorbell tinkled and Cam raised a hand in greeting. The short older lady smiled and seemingly recognised the cheerful girl, her cherry cheeks lifting as she tucked her apron into her sides.

"Hola! So nice to see you again, is the little one yours?"
She laughed, watching Cindy's hand drop from hers and rush towards the cooler displays.
"Oh no, this is Cindy. She's my younger sister."
The woman chuckled, "My mistake, you look so similar. Two pretty young girls, I couldn't help but think, with you being with Lucas yesterday."

She nodded in response. "He mentioned he was local, do you know him well?"
"Ah! Of course, of course. I've known him since he was a little boy," she replied curtly, averted her eyes to busy herself while she bustled around behind the counter, cutting and arranging various desserts for display.

"Those look lovely." Cam eyed the chocolate-dipped strawberry cheesecake bites. They did indeed look heavenly.

She smiled, "A new recipe, care to give some a try? Free of charge," she added a wink, going to get a plate before waiting for a repsonse.
She waddled back only seconds later, insisting on her taking some and not leaving room to say otherwise. Cam grinned in response at her warm kindness.

"And what will the princess here be choosing?" she leant across the counter, smiling at the eager-looking younger girl.
"I can't decide. They all look so yummy!" she groaned loudly. "Cammie, help me chooooose?"

She placed her plate down and crouched down beside her. "Hmm... why not two scoops your favourite brownie chocolate, one.. cherry blast?"
"Yes! Oh but the toffee too!"
The older woman giggled politely at their indecisiveness.
"Why not go for the four? We live once, after all!"

"Yes please!" chimed the girl.

*

They waved kindly to the older woman, promising to come back soon, their hands linked as they headed back down to the beach.

"Was that nice?"
Cindy nodded energetically, "It was soo good. We have to go there more often! We should take Mommy and Daddy too!"
"Good idea," she said lightly, sighing in happiness as her feet touched the gentle sands.

"Race you to the water!" the shorter girl threw down her sandals, dress already ditched in a pile as she raced ahead.
"Hey! You had a head start!" Cam laughed, stumbling out of her loose top and cropped shorts.
She ran after the glinting, floral pink swimsuit already far ahead and grinned as they hit the water, a triumphant whoop sounding from Cindy.

His head turned towards the beach and he watched a flash of pink streaking towards the shoreline. Not far behind, an older, slim girl followed in a pretty black bikini. A warm smile ghosted his lips as he recognised her and saw the two giggling and playing in the waves. He considered going down to say hi, but not wishing to interfere, he glanced towards the horizon once more and disappeared down the streets.
