The Event That Risked Izzy's Life

The Check-Up

Jake's POV

We were at the hospital for Izzy to have another x ray on her leg. We were currently waiting in the waiting room, waiting for the doctor come to take Izzy to the x ray room.

"Jake, do you think my leg has improved?" Izzy asked me.

"I'm sure it has improved as you are doing really well with using your crutches." I exclaimed.

"Izzy?" The doctor called for her as he came over to us.

"Are you ready for your x ray?" He asked her.

"Yes I am. See you guys in a bit." Izzy exclaimed as she went with the doctor to the x ray room, with her crutches.

"Good luck Izz!" I exclaimed.

Izzy's POV

We made it to the x ray room. The doctor opened the door for me as I crutched my way in. He helped me to sit down on the x ray table and l layed down on it. He placed my broken leg on the pillow and moved the x ray machine above my leg.

"Okay, I'm going into the other room to take your x ray now." The doctor exclaimed as I nodded my head.

He left the room to take my x ray. He took my x ray as he came back as he helped to get off the x ray table as he gave me my crutches.

I walked back to the waiting room, with my crutches, where Jake, Cubby, and Skully were waiting for me.

"Hey Izz, how did your x ray go?" Jake asked me as he got up and helped me to sit down in the waiting room chair. He sat down next to me.

"It went okay. The doctor is going to get my x ray and probably call us into his office." I exclaimed as the doctor came towards us and he motioned us to come to his office.

Jake's POV

We went into the doctor's office as we let Izzy go in first as I held the door for her as she crutched her way in. I helped her to sit down in the chair.

"Thanks Jake." Izzy thanked me as I sat down next to her.

"Your welcome. So doctor, how is her x ray this time?" I asked the doctor.

"Well, here is her latest x ray that we took today." The doctor exclaimed as he placed Izzy's latest x ray on the table.

"Has my leg improved?" Izzy asked the doctor.

"Your leg has improved a little bit as you can see in your x ray that the bone is not touching your blood vessel." The doctor exclaimed as I was happy for her.

"Are you happy about that Izz?" I asked her.

"Yeah! So I don't need to have surgery on my leg, right?" Izzy asked the doctor.

"Oh, you're still having the surgery." The doctor exclaimed.

"Oh." Izzy sighed as she looked down at her lap.

"When is her surgery going to be?" I asked the doctor.

"Her surgery is going to be next Tuesday and you all will need to arrive at the hospital at 7:00am. Her surgery will begin at 9:00am." The doctor.

"Will she be going home on the same day of her surgery or will she be staying in the hospital for a while?" Cubby asked the doctor.

"She will be staying in the hospital for a week, so that we can monitor her." The doctor exclaimed.

"You will be meeting the Anaesthesiologist and her surgeon on the day of her surgery." The doctor exclaimed.

"Also, here's a sheet for you to sign Mr. Hutchinson to allow Izzy to have anaesthesia." The doctor exclaimed.

I signed the sheet to Izzy to have surgery and to be put to sleep with the anaesthesia.

"Here you go!" I exclaimed as I gave the clipboard back to the doctor.

"Fantastic!" He exclaimed.

"Do you have any other questions?" The doctor asked us.

"Will she be having physio therapy after getting her cast removed?" I asked the doctor.

"Yes she will be having physio therapy, so she can learn how to walk again." The doctor exclaimed.

"Will she be able to eat before her surgery?" Cubby asked the doctor.

"She must not eat eight hours before her surgery as she must have an empty stomach for her surgery." The doctor exclaimed.

"Can I bring my teddy bear with me?" Izzy asked the doctor.

"Yes you can Izzy. We encourage kids to bring their favourite toy with them in order to calm them down and to cuddle with them." The doctor exclaimed.

"Thank you Doctor." Izzy thanked him.

"What will happen during her recovery?" I asked the doctor.

"She will have a new cast on her leg after her surgery for a week then after the two weeks, she will get her cast taken off and she will be walking in a leg boot but she must continue to use her crutches while using the leg boot. After she gets the leg boot taken off, she will be having physio therapy on her back, arm, and leg." The doctor explained about how Izzy's recovery will take place.

"Thank you doctor for explaining to us about her recovery." I exclaimed.

"Your welcome. I will see you all next week." The doctor exclaimed as we left.

"Bye!" We exclaimed.

We made it home as Izzy was walking in front of us, with her crutches.

"How are you feeling about having surgery on your leg?" I asked her as I helped her to sit down on the couch.

"I'm feeling really scared about it." She exclaimed as I placed her leg on a pillow on the chair in front of her.

"Don't worry Izz, we'll be right by your side, the entire time while you're in the hospital." I exclaimed as I sat down next to her.

"But you're not going to be by my side when I'm in surgery." Izzy exclaimed.

"That is true but think about us during your surgery, maybe dream about us." I exclaimed.

"I'll try but I'm just too nervous." Izzy exclaimed as I hugged her.

"You're going to be doing just fine. I'll be proud of you while you're in surgery." I exclaimed.

"Really?" She asked me.

"Yes, you'll be fine and I know you can be brave." I exclaimed.

"But if it doesn't go well? What if my leg never heals and my leg is just broken for the rest of my life?" She asked me while being worried.

"Don't worry, your surgery will go great and they will fix the bones in your leg. We're all so proud of you, already." I exclaimed as she smiled.

"Thanks Jake. I'm just hoping that I can prove it after my surgery is over." She exclaimed.

"Once your surgery is over, we'll be right by your side during your recovery." I exclaimed.
