~Don't ask questions you don't wanna know~
~Learned my lesson way too long ago~
...
The scientist takes a soft, deep breath, raising his head from his folded arms, which cushion his head from the hard workbench beneath him. He lets out a yawn, rubbing his eyes ever so softly. He takes a look around the garage he had passed out in, boxes stacked on the shelves, bits and pieces scattered over the workbench. He lets out a sigh as his eyes fall onto the note just by his arms. Curious, he picks it up and reads it.
"Good morning, dad," he reads aloud, "I made you pancakes for breakfast, but found you asleep, so I left it in the microwave. The kids are at school and I'm currently at work, so you'll wake up alone. Sorry, have a nice day - Beth." he groans softly and crumples it up. He removes the blanket his Morty had put on for him, smiling a little to himself as a foggy memory of him doing so comes to his mind.
He smiles softly to himself and leaves the garage, making his way to the kitchen. Rick takes his plate out of the microwave after heating it up for a minute or so, then pours some maple syrup over, enjoying his meal in the dining room. He wasn't a fan of being alone, but he enjoyed the peace and quiet from time to time. A groan is heard behind him, his smile dropping a little. He had forgotten his son in law was in the house and sleeping on the couch, of course he got Beth upset.
Rick looks over his shoulder and at the man, frowning at his pajamas, which is only underwater and a white shirt with stains on, his gray sweatpants taken off and discarded somewhere in the living room.
"Beth still mad at you?" Rick asked softly, setting his knife and fork down on his empty plate. Jerry jumps a little, not having acknowledged his presence until now. He clears his throat and scratches the back of his neck, looking at the nearest object.
"Uh, yeah..." he responds, looking around. Rick sighs softly, secretly glad that his daughter had kicked her husband out of the bed. He shrugs and stands up, putting his dishes away and walking into ten bathroom. After he does his business and his morning routine, he walks off into the garage. Once the door shuts, he sighs, left alone in silence.
He almost instantly felt bored, having nothing to do. He could continue building what he was busy with last night, or he could get drunk at ten in the morning. He wasn't in the mood to invent nor get drunk and vulnerable. An idea sparks in his head, a smile forming on his features. He needs to go on an adventure and collect some Vcach crystals. Although Rick could easily get them himself, he would rather prefer collecting them with his grandson, Emo Morty.
He smiled at the thought- hanging out with his Morty, just the two of them cruising around space and on a mission to get some shiny crystals. The vivid thoughts excited him. He grabbed his keys and claimed into his car, quickly exiting the garage and flying over the suburbs. The man smiled to himself as he pictured the two of them laughing over one of his silly jokes, the both of them left alone and spending time together.
After a bit, he finally buried his excitement under an emotionless expression, parking his car beside the school. The blue haired scientist gets out of the car and makes his way into an alleyway, quickly making a portal into the school as the bell rings. He appears in a passage way, swerving around the hormonal teenagers who leave their classrooms. They all leave the man alone, having seen him too many times for it to be surprising.
They know when they spot him wondering around the halls that Morty would disappear with him and come back either just before the end of school or the following day. The blue haired man walks around, having memorized the hallways and Mortys timetable, knowing exactly where he would be and exactly when he has to leave, leaving him with five minutes to get to him before he has to go to biology.
Rick finally spots the teenager, smiling a little at him from afar. Morty gathers his few books and places a few back into his locker, hiding the bags under his left eye with his hair. He has bandages on his arms and a black shirt on, his face drooping. His grandfather knew he was in a bad mood and knew that an adventure would cheer him up; even if something would only make him a little happy, he would try to do it or get it for him, finding it hard to look at him when he's upset.
Before he could even walk over to him, his girlfriend makes her way towards him, kissing his cheek and leaving a bit of smudged pink lipstick on his skin. His pout almost instantly turned into a smile when having her near him, which easily made Rick jealous. She was so young and pretty, her hair was short and done, her skirt short, but long enough to cover up. She had a somewhat revealing blouse on; almost every boy, or girl, in the school wanted to be with her, but she chose to leave her ex-boyfriend Brad and start dating the sweet, depressed Morty after figuring out he had a crush on her.
Seeing the two together only made Rick upset, his stomach twisted into a knot. His blood started to boil when he heard their laughter, being angry at the fact that she had made him laugh. He clenched his hands into fists, but tried to keep a straight face. He didn't like their relationship, Morty should be with him, not some popular girl who would take advantage of his poor, innocent Morty.
He huffs and walks over to the teen, gently grabbing his shoulder ot get his attention, but not too hard that it could harm him. Morty looks over his shoulder and locks eyes with the man.
"What are you doing here?" he asked in a soft voice, both surprised and annoyed at his appearance. Rick ignores Jessica, only focusing on the boy in front of him.
"I-I need your help, Morty." he states, his eyes narrowing slightly, but not in an angry way, he could never be angry at his Morty for being with Jessica, but rather be upset that he chooses to stay with her. "We need to get these special crystals for a project- could you help me?" he asks politely. He knows there are a few Ricks out there who would treat their Mortys terribly, but he was one of the few who would be polite to them and want to keep them happy rather than force them into a few adventures and missions.
Morty glances at Jessica and sighs. She nods, understanding, and walks off, just as the bell rings again. Rick smiles at his Morty, glad he could have him all to himself.
