We lay in a cold room at Grimmauld Place, me having crawled into Hermione's bed for warmth. It's certainly not how I thought I'd be spending Christmas, but I'm not really complaining.
I chatter away quietly, careful not to wake Ginny.
Realising I'm talking too much, I stop, and turn my head to see Hermione staring at me with a smile.
"What's up?" I laugh.
"Nothing..." She trails off, looking into my eyes, "I love you Brinley."
I smile widely as the all-too familiar butterflies from last year return to wreak havoc on my stomach.
"I love you too." I tuck a strand of hair behind her ear and kiss her softly. Just like the first time we kissed, there's a lingering taste of cinnamon. I stare at her quietly for a moment, filled with happiness and a sense of peace.
As the night goes on, and we talk about every subject that comes to my mind, it gets even colder and I shuffle closer to her.
That's how we fall asleep, tangled together for warmth under three blankets after admitting we fell in love.
I've never loved anyone like I love her, which is probably because I'm fifteen. But we've been through so much in a year, it feels like we're so much older, and I doubt that'll stop anytime soon. You-Know-Who isn't going to sit around and wait for us to have normal teenage years. In the meantime, we're living off a magic that he doesn't understand.
The world is in a scary place right now, even if some people don't want to admit it. But I've never been more certain that I'll be completely fine, as long as I'm with Hermione. It's not very logical, but love never is, is it?
