Happy Lunar New Year!
I thought I'd make one based on it, since it just happened. Some of the information might be wrong! It varies from place to place.
Third Person P.O.V.
Frisk let out a large huff in annoyance. Sans was working on a holiday. She understood that being king was difficult, she was his ambassador after all, but on a holiday? That wasn't fair.
The monsters have been freed for less than a year, so they hadn't experienced many of the Surface's traditions. Sans had been studying those traditions for future meetings. He was severely stressed but refused to take a good break.
While she would typically appreciate his dedication, this was an exception.
"Sans!" She groaned. "Come on, it's Lunar New Year! We have to celebrate it."
The king in question sighed, not looking up from the book. "Sweetheart, it isn't that simple. We have a meeting with all the world leaders soon, I have to be prepared."
Pouting, Frisk sought for a way to pull him away from the textbooks. Hm...
Suddenly, an idea popped into her head.
She grinned, "Come on, you'd be learning our culture! It's a good opportunity. I can teach you about it."
That seemed to have worked, as Sans shut the book with another joking sigh. "Fine, I surrender."
Frisk cheered at the accomplishment. He stood, and she led him through the castle halls. While she was lecturing animatedly on the subject, he watched her.
"It's the new year for places that base their year off the moon phases, I believe. It celebrates luck and prosperity. Kids can get red envelopes, also known as lucky money, from adults."
She gestures to her dress, "We typically wear vibrant colors, red and gold commonly, and styled clothing. It depends on the culture from place to place."
As they walked, he could see all the unfamiliar decorations. Lanterns of different sizes and shapes were hung from the ceiling. 3-D decor was scattered around. It was quite beautiful.
"Then there's the dragon dance, which brings good luck. People find it entertaining as well." She rattled on about different aspects of the culture. It was interesting to Sans.
Then, they arrived to a balcony of the castle, overshadowing the festival below. People were talking excitedly, music accenting every area, Children ran from place to place, causing mischief. Some people had masks, while others tended to stalls of food. Popping was heard from somewhere. It was a sight to see.
But in a big area farther away, people were holding paper lanterns. Flames flickered into light as those lanterns began to float away. They joined the others, high in the sky, seeming like stars in the night sky.
"And then there's my favorite part, the floating lanterns. You can use them to celebrate what you have." Frisk finished.
Sans looked at them in awe. "That's incredible." She nodded as they silently watched the array.
Colors were decorating the sky, the light of youthful flames echoing across many surfaces. Even Frisk was illuminated in the glow.
Somehow, his hand found its way into hers. Softly, he brought their entangled hands to his face. Then, he kissed the back of hers with care.
"Thank you for bringing me here." He quietly murmured. She smiled, turning to him. "You needed a break, the work can wait."
He huffed a laugh, "I wasn't enjoying it anyway."
They shared a chuckle. "But still, thank you. I know I can be a handful sometimes."
Frisk only laid her head on his shoulder, enjoying the light reflecting off their eyes.
"Anytime."
It's a bit rushed, but eh. Hope you enjoyed it! I'm working on the next prompt, it should be out soon.
