Baekhyun has a knack for surprising Sehun. Well, he has a knack for surprising just about everyone at the company, but mostly Sehun. Once he had picked up an abandoned kitten on the side of the road on the way to work and found a way to hide it under his desk so that Junmyeon or Minseok wouldn't make him take the animal outside due to the building's 'no pets' policy. It had been pouring that day and Baekhyun ran into the office holding a cardboard box underneath his coat that was practically drenched. When Sehun saw there was a kitten in the box, Baekhyun made him promise not to say anything. Even if he didn't promise, Sehun wouldn't have said anything anyway.
There was another occasion where he brought in tree-shaped cookies he had spent the whole weekend baking for Earth Day. They looked more like green blobs than anything, but Baekhyun expressed so much excitement about practicing his baking skills that when he asked Sehun if they looked nice, Sehun didn't have the heart to tell him the truth. He ended up going home with about a dozen cookies that day. Not that he minded, they still tasted good.
This month's surprise is one that Sehun has no idea how his co-worker even managed to pull off. Somehow, Baekhyun convinced Junmyeon and Minseok to let him bring in a chocolate fondue fountain for the breakroom for Valentine's Day. He had told Sehun that it would be fun to dip fruits and other sweets in during lunch. Sehun thought he was just joking, but this morning Baekhyun walked into the office with the fountain in his arms, and boy, was Sehun astonished.
Right now the two of them are currently trying to get the machine to work. Sehun's not quite sure what's wrong with it, but the motor sounds like it's going to give out any second and the chocolate is coming out in an unappealing, goopy mess. It's nothing like what the promotional photo on the box looks like.
"Why isn't it coming smoothly like in the videos?" Baekhyun whines.
Oh, there's that pout again, Sehun thinks. "It says the chocolate should be a pretty thin consistency in order for it to flow. Did you add enough oil?"
Baekhyun freezes, pressing his lips into a thin line. "No..." he says slowly. "I didn't realize I had to do that. Oops. Do you think we can spoon it back into the bowl and do that really quick?" He fumbles around with the machine, fingers getting coated in chocolate as he tries to take it apart again. "The tower's not coming off."
Sehun rolls his sleeves. He chose a bad day to wear white. "I can try."
Baekhyun shakes his head. "No it's okay, I got it. You'll get your shirt dirty!"
"I don't mind," Sehun says.
They both awkwardly handle the machine, hands occasionally slipping and sliding onto one another's from all the chocolate. Sehun utters a sheepish "sorry" every time his hand accidentally touches the other's and Baekhyun immediately shakes his head and tells him it's alright. He's not sure anyone would even want to dip their food into this after their hands were all up in it.
Baekhyun finally gets something to loosen and off the tower goes, only there's chocolate flying everywhere from him suddenly yanking it off. A couple of drops hit Sehun's glasses and just a little below his lips and chin. Baekhyun looks like he took most of the damage. There's a large brown splatter on his sweater and a streak across his cheek.
Baekhyun gasps, clasping a hand over his mouth. "I'm so sorry. I didn't mean to that."
They stare at each other for a second, then look down at the big mess they created before bursting into laughter.
"Junmyeon and Minseok are never gonna let me do anything again after this," he giggles.
Sehun's about to tell him they can clean up before anyone sees when the other suddenly reaches out toward his face.
"You've got some chocolate here," Baekhyun says, still chuckling, as he wipes the corner of Sehun's mouth with his thumb.
Sehun is utterly floored when the other proceeds to lick the chocolate he had just wiped off his lips off of his thumb. It's embarrassing how flustered he feels over such an innocent gesture. His cheeks feel warm, too warm. Baekhyun does not seem to notice the effect his little action had on him as he smiles and says he'll go to the supply closet to grab some paper towels before exiting the room. A dumbstruck Sehun is left standing there trying to compose himself as he reaches up to touch the spot Baekhyun had touched him. Should he have helped Baekhyun wipe off the chocolate on his face too?
Meanwhile, in the supply closet, Baekhyun is holding his face in his hands, internally screaming at himself for what just happened. Why did he do that? That's something your mother does and you push her hand away because it's just plain embarrassing now that you're not five years old anymore. Who does that to a friend?
He does have to admit one thing though. Sehun's surprised expression was pretty damn cute.
