Chapter One: Mom's Clients?
"So mum," I squinted my eyes at her, twirling her black queen chess piece in my left hand. "Checkmate."
"God damn it," She sighed, throwing up her arms, then raking them through her blonde hair, and her deep sea blue eyes darted to me angrily. "Fine, Gabbi. You win again."
"Glad to hear that mother," I said, getting up off of the couch and staring at my cat, Mr. Wiggles, who was sitting adjacent to me and my mother, who sat across from me on the other beige couch. "Did you let Mr. Wiggles out?"
"No," She then looked at the fluffy, small, black and white cat who looked at me with admiration. " It was raining early and you know I don't like that smell of wet cat."
"Oh, come one Mr. Wiggles," I called. "Let's go outside."
I led Mr. Wiggles to the back screen door, which I think he thought was opened because he ran headfirst into the clear glass. He bounced back, sat on his haunches and looked at me. Waiting. He purred and meowed to the door and I rolled my eyes, chuckling. Sometimes I think that cat can be so dopey, it's too adorable. I opened the door and the over-eager cat pounced into a flowerpot beside the house. I reached over and helped him out, and he continued on prancing and rolling until a butterfly caught his attention; he was off after that.
I watched the serene clouds move slowly across the sky. My cat was happy, my mum started singing from the kitchen an Adele song, and all the world to be in peace. My black sports watch beeped its alarm and I sighed in contentment.
