As I awake in the morning from my cow, Blume, calling for her breakfast, Making sure I do not awake any of my siblings, I slowly slip out of my covers that drape over me. I look around to see everyone sleeping. My mother sharing a bed with my only brother right across from my bed, my two youngest sisters sharing a bed in the other side of the room. And me and my oldest younger sister on the floor, but we didn't mind.

Like every morning before I leave home or school I would milk Blume and make breakfast for my family, this normally was a small cup of milk with a tiny piece cheese made the day before. On a good day we would have a slice of bread to spit with the family. Any and all of the food we would gather in the harvest season was given to the Capital.

I opened the front door, trying not to make a noise. "MOOOO"

"Keep it down! Their still sleeping!"  I said strocking her back.

        "MOO"

"Yes, I know it's next week. Please don't remind me" Of coarse we were taking about the drawing, that happens every year, in the center square of town. For the town this is a time of celebration or sadness. If someone in your familys name was drawn then you would say your good byes and hide in your house with all the doors and windows shut, trying to forget what had just happened. But if no one was drawn you would join that night with friends and enjoy a meal.

I walk to the opening of the fence, I pick up the old metal milk bucket and the short brown stool. Slipping the stool under myself  to sit and do the morning milking. As I milk Blume I look into the distance, past the feilds, past the fence, and even past the trees.
"What could be out there?" I asked Blume

"Moooooooo"

"But what... No I cant think like that. It is too dangerus. They are watching..." As your voice trailed off the door opened to reveal your mother.

"Need any help honey?" She asked sweetly.

"No mom go back to bed, I can handle it. Its the least I can do." Walking back into the house you stop her.

"Mom?"

"Yes?" She responds in her sweet voice.

"Can I wear your red dress tonight?"

With a tear she said, "Yes, yes you can Rue." With that she walked back into the house.
