Kyle and Naiomi had arrived around 11, just as Brook had said. Kyle had looked a bit miffled as he held the ingredients he went to Italy for in his hands. Apparently, he was out bargained and ended up spending way more than he wanted. I could hear him grumbling about how the recipe "better be worth it" as he walked past. It took all I had not to burst out laughing and tease him about it.
Based on the small explosions and smell, Naiomi was going to hear a great deal of annoyed grumbles for the next few days.
The bell rang, signaling that Brook had returned, right after I threw my dagger at the messily drawn target on the other side of the room, facing away from the door.
"Kyle and Naiomi are in the back, be careful, it smells worse than a rotting corpse in there." I warned, taking my feet off the counter. I was met with silence, confused I spun around, only to see the guy from earlier. Just like before, his signature was nowhere to be found.
"Oh, I thought you were my friend."
"It's ok," He took a crumpled paper out of his pocket and placed it on the counter. "I need someone to make this potion, I have the recipe and I know how to get the ingredients, I just need someone to make it," He asked, "I'm willing to pay extra, all the other places I've tried won't make the potion." I shot him a questioning look, What kind of potion would other shops refuse to make? I pulled the paper closer.
"Restiorias potion?" Why was the name familiar?
"It's a potion that can supposedly break memory curses and fix tampered memories." He supplied.
"I've heard of it, but why won't. . . oh," I trailed off when I saw the complicated instructions. No wonder why no one was willing to make it. I started chewing my lip as I read through the list of ingredients. "Why do you need it?
"It's a memory potion that is supposed to be able to break memory curses." He offered. I examined the paper closer and suddenly my memory clicked.
"Isn't this potion illegal?" He hesitated before answering.
"It is." He stared at me, gauging my reaction as he waited for me to speak.
"It's just a memory potion right?" He nodded. "Then why is it illegal?"
"I don't know, the council has a lot of weird rules." He blatantly stated. I raised an eyebrow. It was a rare sight to see someone insulting the council so brazenly.
"Who are you?" I asked, suddenly realizing I didn't know who he was. He jolted, obviously realizing the same thing and held out his hand.
"Agent Derek Alston of the Order of Mythica" I reached over and grasped his hand in a firm handshake.
I cocked my head, Astrid had told me about him once, but I couldn't really remember about what. He had to be powerful, the Order of Mythica was the magical version of the FBI and CIA combined and didn't take in weaklings.
I would have to be careful.
"Riley Walker, Potion Master, and Bounty Hunter." I said with a small smile. "Why do you need the potion?" I asked. Whenever we got requests for custom potions or charms, we always asked questions, no matter who we were serving so we knew our creations weren't being misused.
"To remember something." He replied with a raised brow. Good answer,
"Is the potion for personal use or your job?"
"Personal"
"Are you trying to remember something that might harm someone?"
"No,. The opposite actually." When he didn't clarify any further, I left him alone. He was telling the truth thanks to the truth spell that affected anyone in the shop-save for Brook and I. We needed to be able to lie.
"How much of it do you need?"
"Just one dose."
"Will you try to turn me in?"
"Try?" He asked. I stared at him, waiting for his response.
"No."
"Good, I'll make it." He smiled curiously at my willingness to break the law. "It'll be interesting."
"What about the money?" He asked.
"You can pay $1,000 right now, and then we can decide on the rest later, sounds good?" He nodded, not even blinking at the price.
"When do you need it? Some of these ingredients will take some time to collect." Like the Lethe Water. I would have to go to the Greek Underworld for it.
"I don't have a deadline or anything, but I'd like to have to potion as soon as possible."
"Ok." I examined the ingredient list and instructions again, I had the common ingredients in stock like Valerian Juice, but some would be hard to get too.
"Fae Azolla and Sporangium." I murmured under my breath. The 2 ingredients were like opposites. Fae Azolla grew in the slow moving rivers of the Fae Realms and absorbed magic to survive. Sporangium was used in potions to multiply effects. It would be interesting to see how the 2 reacted to each other.
"Check back with me in about a month, it should be ready by then. If it's not then it will be soon. Leave your contact information with me in case it's ready earlier." I spun around to help the twins, but his hand wrapped around my wrist.
"Wait, I want to help!"
"Help?" I asked, puzzled.
"Yeah, I can get some of the ingredients like the Lethe Water to help speed things up."
"No, I can do it by myself." I didn't want his help, especially since he was part of the Order of Mythica. Being around the law made me jittery and more likely to slip up, which could be fatal not just for me, but for Brook too.
"Please?"
"I said no, sorry and bye." With that I turned around speed walking to the back to wait him out.
When he left I heard snickering coming from behind a door. Groaning I stomped over to see the twins and Brook struggling to hold in the laughs. As soon as they saw me though, their efforts were abandoned and the trio was laughing their asses off.
"Pleaseeee? I want to help!" Naiomi mimicked, giving me the puppy dog face, playfully mocking me.
"Wow Riley, you really are a heartbreaker." Kyle teased with a small smirk on his lips. I scowled, trying to hide my smile, but it broke through.
"Oh shut it you three." I muttered, whopping them on their heads as I passed.
OoOoO
Ok, so Derek is a soon to be introduced character. I need to write the chapters between the last one and this one, I kinda write random scenes from the plot out of order and just paste them together😅
4/2/21 OK! I have written the chapters before this! Yay!
Question. What is your favorite Vine? I know Vine is kinda gone now, (I actually didn't know about it until it was over, hehe) but I was looking at some on YouTube and found some really funny ones. My favorite is the "you're all going to hell ~goodbye~" one. Here's the link!
