The Maze

I woke up with an itchy sack over my head as they were dragging me through a cold and wet corridor. My nose hurt.

I could hear multiple sets of footsteps and the steady drip of water. As I strained my eyes to see through the fibers of the sack, they stopped. I heard the grinding sound of rusty metal against stone. One of my captors must have opened a door.

Suddenly the sack was yanked off my head and the next thing I knew, I was flying towards a very wet and cold stone floor. I hit the floor hard on my hip, using my hands to try to break my fall. As my eyes started to water I heard the slam of the door.

"Welcome to the Maze, All the guards have placed bets on how long a human like you is going to last. The longest we think you are going to live is a day!" I heard the men laughing as they walked back down the corridor we can from. Assholes!

I tried to sit up, and was rewarded in a fresh wave of pain from my hip. My hands were scraped up and bleeding. Apparently the floor wasn't as smooth as it seemed. I took some deep breaths and tried to work out what was going on. Obviously this was some kind of prison, but I had never heard of a prison called the Maze.

I scanning my surroundings, hoping to see someone who could answer some of my questions and noticed something strange; there were no electric lights and based on what little I could see, it reminded me of a dungeon from my fantasy books. The corridor was made of stone and lit by torches and the room I was in wasn't lit at all. Except for one window, set high up in the wall.

Something was wrong with the sky outside. It was a solid grey, not the kind of sky there was when there were stratus clouds making things seem gloomy. The sky looked like one solid block of dark grey.

A rustling sound from my left made me jump. A few seconds later, another sound made me take the pocket knife I kept in my boot out. A sudden oily feeling washed over me, along with the smell of a porta potty, making me want to gag.

"Who's there?" I tried to make my voice sound like I wasn't scared shitless, but I knew It was squeaking.

"The guards said she was a human," A voice whispered.

"I've never tasted a human before. I wonder what it would taste like." A second voice replied. Taste?

"Where are you?" I asked. "Who are you?" I stood up and held my open pocket knife in front of me.

"The human looks scared" A new voice chuckled. Of course I was scared. I was trapped inside a cell with 3 weirdos who wanted to eat me.

"What do you think it's thinking about?" said the second voice.

"Maybe if we split its head open and suck out its brains we'll know." the first voice rasped.

"It doesn't look that appetizing, maybe we could keep it for entertainment." the third voice suggested. Even though it didn't want to eat me, it didn't sound any nicer than the others.

A dark shadow grew bigger as it stepped closer to the faint light coming from the window.

A massive woman appeared, probably more than 10 feet tall. I scrambled back, eyes wide, mouth open, from her oily matted hair and green wrinkled skin. She reminded me of a goblin from a video Bree used to play.

She shook her greasy hair and a bunch of different snakes fell to the floor, hissing and spitting venom, before slithering back behind her and into the shadows.

"What are you?!" Her face stretched into an ugly grin. She was missing most of her teeth and the ones that were left must have been sharp at one point, but now were dull and rotten.
