Lily's pov

(I'm leaving)

Leaving was what I knew best. My mother pretended everything was okay, but I could feel her pain whenever she missed my dad. She was in so much agony...

(Back to yesterday)

"I'm leaving," were the last words I said before he grabbed my throat. It wasn't to hurt me, but to hold me firmly enough that I couldn't move.

"You're not leaving me," he whispered. "You're never leaving me."

"I got accepted into the werewolf college."

"I don't care. You're not leaving me."

"I have to."

"Why? Why now, when I've finally found you, when I no longer have to be jealous of others and their mates?"

"It hurts... It hurts to see her... It hurts not wanting to kill her."

"Kill who?"

"Let me go."

"Go to bed. I want to see you in the morning. I really want this to work. I'm trying so hard to be patient with you. Please, you promised me."

(The next day)

I was so angry that I didn't realize I was hurting my wolf. She was furious with me, but I couldn't forget the pain of knowing my dad died on my birthday. I never even got to say goodbye. The next morning, I went for a run, torn between staying and leaving. It was a tough decision, but I decided to leave. It hurt too much to admit that I already loved him. I wasn't good at pretending. I didn't know if he would ever understand because of his mother. I wasn't trying to cause division between their family, but I couldn't stand pretending that I liked her.

Hearing my phone ring jolted me from my thoughts.

"Hey," he said nervously.

"Hi."

"Did you sleep on it?"

"Yeah."

"And...?"

"I have to leave."

Silence.

"I love you. I never thought I'd say those words to someone... I never thought it would be you."

"Stop... Stop right now. I can't believe you. I can't believe how easily you broke that promise. You said you'd give me a chance. What did I do? What did you know? Forget it."

Call ended.

The pain was overwhelming.

(My wolf)

You need to fight for your mate. You need to fight. Just once, fight.

I ran to the bathroom, took care of my personal needs, and went straight to the pack house, searching for him. I followed his scent to his room and found him sleeping on his bed. Lost in thought, he woke up, and I couldn't quite read his expression, but it seemed like he was disgusted by me. Still, I was determined. I was going to try because this little mate of mine would drive me crazy.

"So, are you just going to stay there and stare at me?"

Silence.

"So you came to my house to give me the silent treatment?"

"No," I replied softly. "I have a past that makes me hold grudges against people, but I want you to promise me that, no matter what happens, you will respect my decisions."

"I promise."

Unable to hold back any longer, I grabbed him and kissed him passionately
