——————————hermione called for prefects attention. they all quieted, slowly giving her their full attention as time drew on. she smiled widely at them even though the majority of the students seemed like they'd rather be anywhere else - which was fair, considering the meeting started right after the end of classes and they were probably hoping for some free time to relax. however, she had work in a few hours and so much to do before then so this was the best she could do.
"good afternoon. i hope everyone is well?" hermione asked, clasping her hands together in front of her hips. a few people answered, giving the standard 'yeah i'm good' or the few muttered 'like it matters' but she ignored them. spiteful kids were the last of her worries right now. "that's good. now, i would just like your thanks for patrolling the thestral grounds - we've had reports of less vandalism and disruptions for the herd and it's all because of you. well done."
a few people clapped. neville smiled brightly, sending her a thumbs up. hermione smiled back. pansy parkinson rolled her dark eyes, nudging a sixth year slytherin prefect who failed in hiding their small chuckle. hermione ignored them too.
she shuffled the papers around, checking her itinerary. right, the questionnaire.
"okay, moving on. i would also like to thank you for getting the students to fill in the questionnaire. i've sifted through them all and have compiled a list of activities that popped up the most," she said, shuffling through more pieces of parchment before finding the one she needed. she laid it on top of her itinerary, slowly taking her seat. "as it stands, the introduction of the muggle sports 'football' and 'rugby' are two of the most requested clubs and the headmaster has approved of it. while they renovate a part of the grounds to create a pitch and wait for the supplies to arrive, it's now up to us to decide who will oversee these clubs. ideally, those who already know enough about these sports. any volunteers?"
no one besides neville put their hands up. he flushed at the realisation and quickly put his hand down, clearing his throat. "well, uh, i just wanted to ask if those rolls are only open to prefects? i know a handful of students who know a lot about football and rugby - some even used to play."
"perfectly fine, neville," hermione said, grinning at him. she turned back to the group. "i don't plan to throw another responsibility like this when a lot of you are already busy with quidditch and studying, along with the extra patrol time. which is why headmaster dumbledore has agreed for us to simply advertise the opportunity around school and take interviews if necessary."
"and if no one wants to?" susan bones asked.
"i'm sure some will," hermione sighed, tempted to rub her temples. "headmaster dumbledore has contacted the school board and they've said the participation in these clubs will offer similar advantages that quidditch does - minus the opportunity to be scouted, unfortunately, as it is a muggle sport. but it counts as an extracurricular you can add to university applications or even certain cv's, depending on the field of work you go into."
padma raised her hand and hermione motioned for her to continue. "will all of these clubs be sports-based?"
hermione glanced at anthony. she wanted him to start talking in these meetings but he simply stared down at a book that was charmed to look like something relevant and important when, in reality, it was another manga. she wished she could slap him over the head with it. sighing inwardly, she smiled at padma. "no, of course not. we've had requests for a multitude of things - book clubs, study clubs, debate clubs are some popular ones. there are also requests for things like fashion, cooking, gardening and the like. hogwarts will be starting a total of ten extracurriculars in the following weeks and depending on the size of the groups, we'll need at least two or three volunteers per club. fifth years and up are welcome to interview for a role but all years are allowed to join."
