the original title was "grandma's hair 2: electric boogaloo"
warnings i guess?: disassociation & sapnap angst because that's literally all this book is
after eating their grandma's hair and messing around the fair for a bit, they walked to the ferris wheel. they arrived relatively late, seeing as gainesville was 2 hours from sanford, so they only had a little bit of time left until it closed. nick was looking from side to side, like he was looking for something; or someone.
"nick, dear, what're you looking for?" george asked, grabbing both of his boyfriends' hands and swinging them as they walked.
"just trying to be wary i guess. this place seems shifty," nick said, half telling the truth. this place was shifty, but it was also where his old friend alex lived. him and alex used to sneak into the apartment complex and slip little bags half-full of salt under the door to make people think someone just gave them drugs. sure, this was when they were 9, but let kids have fun if they want to, right?
see, it's not like either of their parents would care what they were doing. nick's parents only ever used him as bragging rights, talking about how he got the lead in the school play or how he got runner up in the spelling bee and got to be on TV. once he started dating a guy, his parents just started going to parties hosted by random parents in the neighborhood to stop themselves from being home.
and alex? his parents were back in mexico. they sent him to live with his aunt and grandmother since they thought alex wouldn't want to be as weird around his extended family. spoiler alert- it made him weirder. he just found stuff to do alone instead of family bonding time. alex knew the place like the back of his hand and would constantly get into trouble with his sidekick, nick. once nick had to move, alex disappeared. his abuela went mental trying to find him, but the police were no help. nick never saw alex again.
that's when nick first learned never to trust the police. it wasn't the last time though.
nick snapped back into reality when he heard clay dramatically gasp. george had said he got something for the two. he slung his bag off of his back as clay grabbed nick's hand. george was smiling a proud smile, and for good reason too. clay was never this energetic, his psyche drastically changed from the popular guy to the loveable comic relief who loved nick and george.
nick looked at george as he fiddled with the zipper. it was stuck because of course it was. george made a frustrated groan as he pulled it back and forth, finally getting it open. (why do i put these random parts into the story when they don't add anything??)
george pulled out three dog tag necklaces. they each were engraved with their "signature thing". clay's was a smiley face from when he would draw them religiously, kind of like how everyone else would draw the 'cool S' everywhere. george's was his clout glasses he almost always wore. nick's was a little fire since he accidentally lit clay's sister's panda stuffed animal on fire twice.
clay hugged george as nick gave him a kiss. all three of them were finally content. the fair was draining out, al the people maneuvering towards the exit. the three of them, however, were almost at the front of the line for the ferris wheel. clay was practically bouncing now, his energetic nture showing as george rolled his eyes. nick's eyes, however, caught something strange. a blue beanie. it peeked out the window's view but nick definitely saw it.
"fuck. nononononono..." nick repeated to himself.
"what?" gogy said, turning his head to glance at the disheveled panda-arsonist. the beanie looked almost... purple now? nick was definitely seeing things. as clay tried to get nick's attention, the dazed noirette watched the beanie turn maroon. a head of fluffy brown hair poked out the window now.
"i fucking hate those devil animals. i mean, at least get a better name than ANTEATER."
