I woke up with machines hooked up to my body and I knew in my heart that my grandmother hadn't made it because in the last moments when the other car hit us I knew that it hit her side the hardest. Tears were streaming down my face as I tried to clutch at the blankets but only my right hand was able to move and a sharp pain in my left made me shout out in pain. An orange haired boy about my age shouted, "Dad she's awake come in here."
A familiar looking face came into the room and said, "This is the second time you've come close to death Ami. Can you tell me what happened this time?"
"My grandmother and I were driving to Karakura town to live here and I guess neither of us noticed because she was telling me stories and a car hit ours head on we didn't even have time to swerve and we couldn't of because we would've gone off the road and into a lake. Why does everything good in my life get taken away?!" I let out in an anguished cry.
"Ami-chan I'm still here remember all the jokes I told you before?" the orange haired boy said that I now remember his name was Ichigo.
"Please Ichigo please tell me you won't leave me," I begged him clutching at his hand with my good one.
"I'm not going anywhere I promise Ami I will always be there for you," he said squeezing my hand back just as tightly.
"Thank you Ichigo....thank you," I said as I lost my hold on reality to a blissful sleep with no pain.
((***ICHIGO'S POV***))
I watched as her eyes slid shut then I looked up to my dad asking silently if she was alright.
He nodded his head with a sad smile and said, "She'll be fine Ichigo I just gave her some medicine to make her sleep and take away her pain."
"Is it alright if I stay with her?" I asked looking up at him hopefully.
"Yeah I'll bring you and her some dinner up later after I make some calls," he said leaving the room he closed the door with just a crack open just in case something happened.
I watched Ami as she slept and thought about my mom (A/N: I think his mom died by this point in time but I'm not sure please tell me if I am wrong and I'll change it) and how she had been taken away from me just like Ami's mom had been taken away from her. Mom would've liked Ami she would've taken care of Ami if she had the chance. I looked down at Ami's face and saw an anguished look on her face so I began to hum the lullaby Mom used to sing to us and soon her face became peaceful again.
((***ISSHIN'S POV***))
I wrote down the medical report I was guessing when the car hit Ami and her grandmother it had almost crushed Ami's left side. When Ami had been rushed into the clinic I had to do an emergency blood transfusion to save her life then stitch up her skin so she wouldn't lose any more blood and set her bones so they wouldn't heal incorrectly. After I had gotten done with that Ichigo had come into the room and had started crying until I soothed his tears by telling him that Ami would be okay.
I sighed and put the report in the fax machine to be given to the police so they knew what had happened with the little girl. She had a blooming reiatsu I had noticed it slightly when she was younger and knew that it would increase but I was unsure how much it would grow and it had hit me as a surprise. I knew I would have to keep a close eye on her but I also knew she couldn't stay here so I made a call to someone who I thought could take her in.
After the first couple of rings a male voice said, "Hello this is Kisuke Urahara what's up Isshin?"
"A patient has come into my clinic I would like you to take her in," I said bluntly.
His care free tone turned into a serious one as he asked, "Why should I take her in?"
I sighed running a hand down my face as I said, "The last of her family has been killed and she has a high spiritual pressure."
"How high?" he asked.
"One that Sosuke Aizen would be interested in," I said plainly.
"Alright I'll take her in but if she does any damage to the shop you'll be paying for it," he replied.
"I know Kisuke," I said then asked, "When can she move in?"
"As soon as we clean out a spare room," he said then covered his phone to yell at someone.
"She'll have trouble moving around at first," I said concerned.
"What exactly happened?"
"Her whole left side was crushed by a motorized vehicle accident. I'll be keeping her until her bones are healed but then you'll have to help her with moving around."
"Alright I'm sure Tessai wouldn't mind coming over there during the time she is sleeping to help in the healing process."
"Thanks Urahara I owe you big time." I said as I hung up the phone.
"Dad?!" Ichigo called to me.
I went over to the room and asked, "What is it Ichigo?"
"We're hungry," he said with Ami nodding her head in agreement.
I smiled and said, "I'll have dinner done soon just wait a half an hour and I'll have it up and in here."
